Meet Trailblazer Nicole Landau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Landau.

Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I always wanted to be an architect so I took every woodworking and CAD drawing class in high school. I enjoyed the planning, details and making sure all measurements were exact. I eventually picked up a few accounting classes in my undergrad and absolutely loved it! I quickly switched my major as I loved numbers. After graduating from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelors of Science, Accountancy degree, I moved to Dallas, Texas. I started in the accounting department with a large retail corporation and then moved over to their internal audit department. I wanted to work with more companies and many industries so I moved to the fifth largest accounting firm. After several years of working within internal audit departments, I really missed working with several corporations and different industries. I decided it was time to launch my own firm which is where I came back to the trades. Landau Consulting Solutions provides outsourced CFO services to construction companies as well as fraud prevention training and investigations. We are headquartered in Denver, Colorado, but service clients throughout the United States.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Taking the leap to entrepreneurship was a difficult decision. I am very methodical and everything has to be planned out so the thought of the unknown was very scary! When I first launched I found a business coach. He was very knowledgeable about business, but not accounting. I made the decision to find an accounting coach who could help me grow the business, who understood accounting, firm pricing, firm marketing, and service delivery. I made the huge investment in the program and have made so many great connections. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the specialized program and the network I have gained.

My husband is my number one supporter. He manages people and runs his own book of business so he has been a huge coach for me and supporting me during the roller coaster of entrepreneurship. Together we dream big and I wouldn’t be able to do it without him.

My business has evolved over the last few years. I knew I wanted to be my own boss and provide accounting services but didn’t know exactly what that entailed. I am a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and absolutely enjoy the fraud investigations and training that I provide. I didn’t have this on the original business plan but have had the opportunity to investigate a few cases and offer this service delivery through my firm. Business’ change and evolve and I love the challenge. If you aren’t passionate about what you do or find your business going another direction, embrace it and follow your dreams.
