Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Sanders.
Ty, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Ty Sanders. I’m a Memphis Native. I am an A&R and Artist Manager. I have been working in the entertainment industry for about ten years. I started managing a studio when I was a college student at the University of Memphis. This led me to work with my Uncle Chris J, who just got signed to Plies Label called Big Gates Records. I worked with them for about four years. My next step was a move to Nashville, where I worked on the management team for Kris Thomas. I worked on a team with two other female music executives. We got Kris signed to the Universal Republic and he made it as a top 3 contestant on The Voice. Currently, under my management company, I work with Rakeem, the mixologist from the Vh1 Tv show “Girls Cruise” and a new recording artist Rique. I am also an A&R for Rare Sounds, a label owned by multi-platinum recording artist K Camp. I also have attended the Grammy Awards 7 times and Bet Awards twice.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road in the Industry has not been smooth, but it has been consistent. I have always been a hard worker. Sometimes it takes more than that to make it in this industry. I have had financial struggles, mental anguish and had to navigate personal relationships with business. You have to really love this business more than money.
Tysand Media – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My management company Tysand Media has molded the careers of successful artists and a reality TV Star. I manage creatives. I am known for having a large role in helping Kris Thomas get signed to the Universal Republic and his success on the hit TV Show “The Voice.” I also helped Rakeem, aka “ Dreads,” build a successful career from the VH1 TV Show “ Girls Cruise,” which featured Lil Kim and Chili. I specialize in molding the careers of new creatives and monetizing their talent. I work with a lot of independent artists and consult them. The one thing that sets my company apart is that I have a focus on the personal relationship with the creative first.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My biggest reason for success is that I study the music business consistently and adapting to the changes. I also have a strong financial background. I am a diligent thinker and I don’t take no for an answer.
