Meet TyFlyy Weeks of HairbyTyFlyy in Edgewood District

Today we’d like to introduce you to TyFlyy Weeks.

TyFlyy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I’m from Birmingham, AL and I’ve had a passion for hair since I was a little girl. While in high school, I was a majorette and would do some of the girls on my line hair. At that moment, I realize I had a talent. I started to branch out trying new styles on friends until I went off to college for 2 1/2 years. While in college, I would do other students hair and some locals too. When my father died in 2011, my passion for school died too. After leaving college, I felt incomplete because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I was broke. My relationship with my mother was damaged. I felt very alone. As I sat in my studio apartment in 2012, with nothing in it, I started to brainstorm. I had to change my life. I had to fix my situation. I knew being a hairstylist was for me but I didn’t know how to go about starting a real career in the beauty industry. I told myself if I pursued the beauty industry, I wanted to do more than just stand behind a chair. I wanted to show people from the city that it’s more to the world and you could do anything you want to do. So I begin taking my career serious in 2013. By the summer of 2014, I was working on set as a hairstylist intern for Migos video “handsome and wealthy.” At that moment, I knew I wanted to move to Atlanta! I moved in February of 2015 and starting networking with anyone I could get in touch within the industry. I found my passion again! I knew I was making the right steps to be a successful hairstylist By working with various artists, socialites, YouTubers, etc to Help build my brand. Fast forward to today and I am part-owner of my own salon suite in the Edgewood District. I have built a steady clientele and made great relationships with a lot of influencers in Atlanta. I am very proud of the woman I’ve become and the business I’m building. This is only the beginning because I know more is to come.

Has it been a smooth road?
Chasing a dream is never easy. Everything will try to come between that dream. I’ve been broke with no food. I’ve been homeless sleeping on friend’s couches. But I still fought through it all. When I first moved to Atlanta, I didn’t have a car. So getting around was so hard for me. I would Uber knowing I didn’t have the money to get back. I would use my rent money to buy supplies for different shoots or anything I may have needed. I went through a really bad break up that almost took me out and made me give up. I was so close to moving back home for good but the people I love never gave up on me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a hairstylist and I specialize in extensions. I would say I’m most known for my frontal installs and closure installs. I love doing those installs because it’s a full transformation when doing them. Most people know me from doing MsJackyOh hair. We always do some fun looks that catch the eye of many people.

I am most proud of my ability to make my clients feel good, inside and out. I love the expressions on their faces when I finish their hair. It makes me feel good knowing that they are satisfied.

I believe my energy and personality sets me apart from others. I’m very down to earth and laid back. I love to make my clients feel comfortable, no matter what the cost is. It’s more than money to me. It’s about building a relationship with the client and making the client feel good about themselves. Building self-confidence is the key!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Honestly, I believe my move here helped me to become the stylist I am today. As a hairstylist, Atlanta helps me be more creative. Starting out here challenges you to be your best. Every challenge that you will face while chasing a dream will better your business. If you work well under pressure, then Atlanta is where you need to be!
