Meet Victoria Booker of Mix N’ Mingle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Booker.

Victoria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for art began as a young girl. My sister and I would put on shows and do arts and crafts with our parents all the time. I also danced for most of my childhood and stared in a small stage production. I was able to really invest in myself as an artist when I published my first book series, “Moody Elementary School” in 2018. In 2019, I began to paint and sell my artwork on social media. I consider myself a self-taught artist so I draw a lot of my inspiration from other established artists (not copying, just inspired). I established Mix N’ Mingle only a few months ago at the beginning of quarantine and have commissioned and sold my original artwork to collectors all over the United States. I chose the name Mix N’ Mingle because I love the power that art has at provoking conversations and emotion. I am continuously learning and educating myself to be a better artist that makes art people will talk about!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, art may be the only journey I’ve taken that has been smooth. I never expected people to love my art the way they do, but there is a pressure of staying on top of your game once you put yourself out there. I have a stack of canvases that I’ve messed up or completed and didn’t love but I don’t look at it as a negative thing. I’m learning what works for me and what doesn’t. The only struggle for me would be creating and maintaining a strong customer base, but with the support system I have (family and friends), most of my business has been word-of-mouth.

Please tell us about Mix N’ Mingle.
Mix N’ Mingle was established in 2019. I am a visual artist working mostly with acrylic paints on canvas. I use different mediums when doing abstract work. I also construct fine art prints using magazine clippings and photo editing software. I don’t limit myself to one type of art so my portfolio is pretty diverse. I also host paint and sips for all ages. I also am an author (Vicky B’s Bookcase). I mostly proud of the fact that I started this journey completely by myself. In the past I’ve tried doing things on my own and it completely stressed me out, however being on this journey has been very rewarding and put the right kind of pressure I needed in order to be great. I try to set myself apart by creating work that tells a story and that is made purely out of love. I also sell my art at affordable price levels. Sometimes, your everyday working-class person feels discouraged to collect art because it is so expensive, so I try to make dope art that won’t break the bank.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have established Mix N’ Mingle a lot sooner! I’ve always had the ability but lacked the confidence. I felt the need to go after what was comfortable but not what felt right!
