Meet Yahir and Giovanni Carbajal of Box Boys in Tustin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yahir and Giovanni Carbajal.

Yahir and Giovanni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Box Boys initially tried starting off as a group with some people that I knew but that was short-lived. So I decided I was going to do this myself. Since it was just me in Box Boys, I had full control in what I could do with the company and I already had a vision in mind. I wanted to build an empire from scratch. A world of visual arts and fashion that anyone can come and be apart of. Slowly I made progress day by day, video by video. I had the foundation blocks of the company but it wasn’t till my brother (Giovanni) wanted to do it together. From that moment on, things were brought to a whole other level. We were both growing, not just as Music Video Directors but as people experiencing the music industry for the first time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At first, it was really smooth. I was doing videos for local talent such as Tryp Flo & Mora Gray and I needed to find a way to get into the underground scene. My brother told me to just DM all the artists you can find on Instagram and that’s what I did. A couple other struggles we’ve had along the way were getting scammed by other creatives/artists, not getting respected because we didn’t have “clout” and getting our videos to be noticed since we have no promotion or big campaign ads to help them get noticed.

Box Boys – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Box Boys specializes in music videos, events, fashion and clothes, and anything rap/underground related. We do studio session videos, behind the scenes on music video shoots and interviews. We’re known for doing all these things. One thing we’re most proud of as a company has to be our music video being so authentic and original. We feel this separates us from other companies or people doing the same typical things in music videos.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The overall goal for the company is to take over the music video industry and dominate and also leave our mark to be remembered forever. A current goal we have right now is to take over the underground scene and help at least one artist blow up through our music videos.
