Meet Zantrella Williams of DSA Academy of the Arts in Riverdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zantrella Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zantrella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved dance as a kid. So, when I was ten my mother took me to a dance showcase and asked me would I want to be a part of the company. I said yes and from there it was history! Lol! I went on to dance all through high school. When I graduated, I audition for Disney and made it out of 500+ people! That was all God! I spent two years of my life in Orlando doing High School, parades, shows and more!

I moved back to Atlanta at 21 which began my video girl and background dancing life. I was able to work with artist like Outkast, Crime Mob, Monica, Killer Mike just to name a few. In my late 20’s I decided to give that life style a rest. I really wanted to be back in class training and learning. I was hired by Gotta Dance Atlanta as an intern but that was short lived when I got pregnant three months later.

After I had my daughter, I honestly didn’t know what to do next. I felt my career was over and I was only 27. That’s when I told myself it was time to step out on faith and start looking for the studio, I always wanted to own one day. That my daughter needed something to call her own without money struggles or the same worry that I was now feeling. My uncle even started helping me look for locations and BOOM he found one! It happens soooooo fast! I didn’t borrow nor did I get a loan. I was able to pay for my studio out of pocket so I wouldn’t owe anyone. PLUS, I already had the studio name, pricing, class style etc. because I knew one day, I was going to find my building.

Now it’s been four year I’ve had DSA and it’s been one of my biggest blessings and testimonies! I was able to create a place that’s free from judgement, and all are welcome!!! When you hear “WELCOME TO DSA” walking through our doors know that you are now a part of our family, and that your loved!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to live in a different state alone missing family. I’ve been told no and even called fat. Plus, when I got pregnant, I really thought dance was over with for me but a new chapter was just starting!
