Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Thompson.
Hi Britt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Food and cooking have always been a huge part of my life. My dad worked in the restaurant business, and my mom is Italian, so growing up, meals were never just something we ate — they were an experience. If there was a dish we loved, we made it from scratch. My grandfather, who we called “Poppy,” lived in our basement after coming to the U.S. from Italy, and some of my favorite memories are spending evenings cooking alongside him in the kitchen. That’s really where my appreciation for food, tradition, and bringing people together began.
As I got older, my passion for cooking continued to grow. I became fascinated with experimenting with flavors, thinking outside the box, and creating dishes using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Cooking became both a creative outlet and a way for me to connect with people. Over time, friends started asking me to help cater parties and special events, and I realized how much I loved creating memorable food experiences for others.
When COVID hit, I started filming myself cooking simply for fun and as a way to inspire people to get creative in the kitchen at home. I began sharing videos on Instagram, and unexpectedly, the response took off. My audience started growing, people connected with my style of cooking, and through word of mouth, catering opportunities quickly followed. Before I knew it, what started as a lifelong passion turned into a growing business and career path that I’m incredibly excited about continuing to build.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, it has been a smooth and very rewarding journey, but there have definitely been challenges along the way. One of the biggest learning experiences was figuring out pricing and learning how to properly manage multiple catering orders at once. Because everything grew so quickly through social media and word of mouth, I had to adapt fast and learn the business side of things while continuing to deliver quality food and experiences.
Another challenge has simply been the amount of time and effort that goes into this industry. Catering and cooking involve long hours, late nights, early mornings, and constant preparation — from sourcing ingredients at multiple grocery stores to making sure every detail is perfect before an event. It can be physically demanding, but at the same time, it’s incredibly rewarding.
At the end of the day, seeing people genuinely enjoy the food I created and being part of their special moments makes all of the hard work worth it. Those reactions and connections are what continue to motivate me and push me to keep growing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While my catering business continues to grow, my primary professional background is actually in social media and marketing. I work with Tassels Jewelry Store and Mitylene Boutique in Buckhead, where I help create content, grow their social media presence, and work directly in-store with clients. That experience taught me how important storytelling, branding, and presentation are — and it naturally carried over into my work in the kitchen. Through social media, I learned how to capture not just the food itself, but the experience, creativity, and energy behind it.
With catering, I specialize in creating highly customized experiences rather than offering a standard set menu. I really enjoy getting to know my clients — their personality, style, and vision for their event — and then curating a menu and presentation that feels personal and unique to them. For me, food should elevate an event and create a memorable experience for every guest.
What I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown creatively, especially when it comes to the presentation and originality of my dishes. I love thinking outside the box and creating elevated, high-quality bites that people may not expect. I’m also very intentional about the ingredients I use. I avoid seed oils whenever possible, prioritize fresh, organic, and grass-fed ingredients, and focus on making every dish feel thoughtful and high quality.
I think what truly sets me apart is the level of care and attention I put into every detail. My goal is for guests to leave an event not only remembering the atmosphere, but talking about how incredible the food was and how it helped make the event unforgettable.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is bringing people together through food and creating experiences that people genuinely remember. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching guests enjoy a dish, connect with one another, and create memories around something I put so much care and creativity into. Food has always represented family, tradition, and togetherness in my life, so being able to give that feeling to others is very fulfilling.
I also love the creative side of what I do. Whether it’s experimenting with new flavor combinations, designing beautiful presentations, or curating a completely custom menu for a client, I enjoy the process of turning ideas into something people can experience and enjoy. Every event is different, which keeps me inspired and constantly pushing myself creatively.
Beyond that, I’m happiest knowing that I turned something I genuinely love into a career path. Being able to wake up every day and do something I’m passionate about — while continuing to grow both personally and professionally — is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
Outside of work, I find a lot of happiness in the people closest to me. I’m currently in the exciting season of planning my wedding and building a life with my fiancé, John, which has been such a special experience. He brings so much joy and support into my life, and I’ve really loved this chapter we’re entering together.
Family is also a huge part of my life. I’m fortunate to live close to my parents, and one of my favorite things is cooking for them during the week and spending quality time together. It feels very full circle to now be able to give back to them through food after they created so many meaningful memories for me growing up in the kitchen.
My friends are another big source of happiness for me. We have a very close-knit core group, and I truly value the time we spend together, whether it’s hosting dinners, trying new restaurants, attending concerts, or just enjoying life together.
I also love staying active and exploring new experiences. Some of my favorite things are pickleball, barre classes, shopping, discovering new spots and happenings around town, and finding inspiration through different events, restaurants, and experiences. I’m someone who really enjoys creating a life filled with connection, creativity, and memorable moments.
