Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Lockhart.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m 31 years old, born and raised in Montgomery, Al … It all started at the age of 12. I use to go up to the shop on Saturday mornings and just watch my auntie do hair from sun up to sun down… Just being in that environment I just knew that’s where I belong. I started doing hair out my mother’s house at the age of 13 but I started just doing kids cause I was a little nervous. When I started middle school I started braiding classmates’ hair during p.e. Lol I had them lined up and waiting on the bleachers. I was doing hair from time to time when I can after school but I started taking hair more seriously when I graduated I knew I wanted to make a living out of it so in 2011 I decided to attend cosmetology school at Trenholm State Technical College. A year later I met my husband and he was located in auburn so I decided to transfer to a southern union where I finished and received my cosmetology license. In 2020 we decided to change locations to be closer to his family so we took the move to Tuscaloosa where I am now located. I have been doing hair full-time now for 10 years…
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I must say no it hasn’t been a smooth ride cause with changing locations, I have to build more clientele. So I’m Just trying to get my clientele but up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a natural hair stylist where I specialize in braids and locs .. I’ve known for my work the neatness, and I’m a fast braider. I’m proud of the growth in my work. I always look back at photos throughout the years and see how far I’ve become and it amazes me. I think what sets me apart from others is I’m not afraid to get out there and just do it no matter what the situation is .. if there’s a style I wanna try I’ll post just so I can get that practice in to make me a better stylist/braider.
