Rising Stars: Meet Erica Duchess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Duchess. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Erica Duchess is from the south side & west side of Atlanta, GA the mother of 3 started comedy in 2013 when her cousin Jessica Shurn & former coworkers told her she needed to try stand up. She went to a local open mic the Ubar for the first time & got a standing ovation. She quit her full-time job of 10yrs to pursue her dream. She’s now in 3 movies, featured for Dave Chappelle & currently on tour with Lil Duval. Erica said, “I know it was God & my faith in myself that’s got me here.” 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Wheww it was a very hard road for me in the beginning, just trying to balance being a mother & transitioning from leaving a job living paycheck to paycheck to now show to show when it was barely shown at times that was a real struggle 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Standup Comedian. People love to hear me tell stories about my life & experiences & for some crazy reason it makes them laugh. I’m proud that this gift I have can change a person’s day & I love when people tell me they day or week has been bad but I changed it with one of my jokes. What makes me different is that I’m real & relatable
