Hi Nita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After attaining my Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina, I began teaching in 2002. I know, I know, ages ago. Originally from Northern Virginia, I taught in there for nine years and took two years off to be a stay-at-home Momma. I have a wonderful, handsome and caring husband, Michael, and our four amazing children.
I taught elementary school in grades 1st and 2nd before I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2013. I began my Instagram page, Love.Teach. Bless., as a 1st-grade teacher. I began my account to share the fun things I was doing in my classroom. Teaching is my passion and I wanted to share it with the world-the Instagram world. I took a job as an Instructional Coach in 2017. As much as I love and have a passion for teaching, I love coaching teachers just as much. My joy is supporting teachers, seeing them grow, supporting their well-being and impacting students. This is now my fourth year as an Instructional Coach and I absolutely adore it. I believe in being a life-long learner and I learn more and more each day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some bumps along the way. Life happens. At the end of my second year of college, my father passed away. I was 8 hours from home and it was a very difficult time for me. I engulfed myself in my studies and I obtained my highest GPA during that semester. However, I didn’t take the time to grieve. I learned then that tomorrow is not promised. I try to make the most of every day and make sure that I give my loved ones their flowers now. If you love and appreciate someone, tell them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a K-5 Instructional Coach. In my job, I support teachers. There are times when I model, co-teach, co-plan, observe and deliver professional learning to educators. The foundation of my work is relationships. Relationships are definitely key to the work I do each and every day. It’s what I am most proud of. Without relationships, no essential work can be done. Making sure that teachers are good, that they practice self-care and fill their cups is so vital to them being able to give students their absolute best. If our teachers are not well taken care of, they can’t be their best self and our students will suffer as well. As educators, we must put our oxygen masks on first.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My loved ones make me happy. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love talking to them and learning from them. It makes me smile and makes my day. I also enjoy reading. I read all different types of books. My jam is diverse children’s books, books about history and learning about different cultures and traditions. Lastly, I enjoy being an Instructional Coach. It is truly my passion.
