Rising Stars: Meet Shamia Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brand Copywriter, Shamia Davis.

Hi Shamia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Writing has always been a form of therapy for me. It didn’t matter if I was journaling or penning an elaborate fictional story; it was as natural as breathing. My love for writing followed me into college, grad school, and several careers. I can’t say that I’m surprised I became a copywriter, but I am shocked at how it all came to fruition.

The truth is, I was uncertain about the longevity of my 9-5, so I started hatching an “escape plan” in November 2019. Day after day, I would spend hours reviewing job posts and applying like a madwoman. I interviewed here and there, but nothing worked out. I can say that it got old real quick!

It wasn’t until I was on holiday break at the end of December that I had an epiphany. I thought, “Why can’t I leverage my degrees and experience to create a career using my writing skills?” That simple question catapulted me into a month’s long brainstorming session. On January 31st, I walked away from my role in sales and marketing with high hopes. There was nothing left to do but trust my gut. Kopy Fresh materialized in February 2020 and has been going strong ever since!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were a few bumps along the way. One month after I launched Kopy Fresh, the pandemic hit hard and rocked our world. I had a decent amount of project work coming in through referrals, but I didn’t know how the virus would affect my new business for the long term. All around, companies were laying off employees, and small businesses were struggling to keep their doors open.

Ironically, the impact of the pandemic created a movement of new business owners finally ready to bet on them. As scary as the uncertainty was, it made me even more determined to beat the odds and make Kopy Fresh a success.

I also realized that I wasn’t practicing what I preached. I would tell my ideal clients to outsource and delegate work, but I handled every role in my business. Stress and anxiety filled my days until I decided to take my advice and hire professionals. Today, I have talented people in my corner who help me manage project work and my business as a whole so I can show up as my best self.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a Brand Copywriter, I specialize in capturing and cultivating a service brand’s unique voice. I use words that elicit action, build trust, and establish genuine connections with their ideal clients. For most busy business owners, writing can be a daunting process. Often, they struggle with their messaging because they lack the time, skill, or will to do it themselves. That’s where I step in.

What sets me apart from other copywriters is my down-to-earth approach to copywriting. While I know the writing “rules,” I also know you can deviate from the constraints of tradition and go with what feels good. That is always my focus when I work with clients. I humanize the systematic nature of copywriting and deliver personality-packed copy and content.

I am most proud that I have served 45+ clients and completed over 100 projects since I launched Kopy Fresh. My brand is one of a kind – fun, vibrant, and quality-focused. There is no greater joy than doing work I love that helps small business owners achieve more visibility, credibility, and sales.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Currently, I’m accepting new clients. If you’re a service brand looking to boost your visibility, credibility, or sales with dynamic messaging, I’d love to work with you.

I am also open to partnering with other small businesses offering services that may benefit my copywriting clients. Please visit my website to book a complimentary consultation call. We can discuss your upcoming project or a potential partnership in detail.
