Art & Life with DeMariyon Futch

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeMariyon Futch.

DeMariyon, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m a self-taught designer, with a Degree in Journalism. I never used this degree before lol. I started with a T-shirt(randomly) line while finishing up my senior year of 2012 in college. The brand surprisingly took off via social media, suddenly. Not knowing where this line would take me or how far I could go with, I moved to Atlanta, GA two weeks after graduating to see if I could push this fashion thing forward. I also worked my full time 9-5 issuing insurance policies for maybe about a year while still working on my brand at night. Eventually, I taught my self how to sew, how to select fabric, do inventory and more. Not only were I customizing T-shirt’s now but also producing tops, pants & more. I eventually started making more money than my 9-5 from my brand. I knew it was time I transitioned into a full-time entrepreneur, but I was very afraid to walk away.

Long story short it finally took me getting fired from that job to pursue my real dreams; fashion. Now five years later I’m running my brand, putting together shows, while inspiring others along the way. I haven’t worked a job since.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I design and produce Menswear clothing. My brand is inspired by “luxury streetwear”. My message is to give men the freedom and ability to express themselves through fashion. “It’s ok to be male and love fashion.”

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I think being an artist, you have to be current. Knowing about things or learning about things taking place in the world could be an inspiration. Myself personally, I build content based off of change, worldly things & events. It’s from within. So yes, I think the role has changed but in a good way.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
