Art & Life with Richard Dominguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Dominguez.

Richard, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Queens, NYC, and my family is from The Dominican Republic.

I was a kid who thought I was going to become an astronomer. Then I discovered Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and after hearing them I couldn’t just be a casual listener of music anymore, I had to learn how to play the guitar. I spent the next two decades writing, recording, and performing alternative rock.

Then I got the bug to learn how to shoot and edit movies.

I’ve always loved television and to observe and capture things around me. When I was 13 during a family trip to Florida, I filmed my first short film called The Witch, which creating a story and editing the whole film in camera truly fascinated me.

So when I was older, I bought my first video camera and started filming everything I could. It was then, through filmmaking, I discovered my love for lighting and composition, which eventually led me to photography. There is still so much more to learn and create. I would like to publish a photography art book one day.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My goal as a photographer is to capture an emotion in a few frames that can lead you to put together a story. And for you to take that story in whichever direction your imagination allows you to. I would like to build my photography to the point to were people see it more like art than just a picture. Hopefully one day I’ll get there.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I think art is still important today and we are all artists in our own way. Just look around you; everything you see was first started in someone’s imagination. The great thing about our time is with the Internet we can connect, learn, and share our ideas even faster.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
