Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Dorsey.
Tamara, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
As I began to grow into my teenage years, people always told me that I should get into modeling. Unfortunately, I never took them seriously. I never thought I was photogenic and was so shy behind a real camera. Also, I personally didn’t know anyone that was in this industry, so I believed it was far-fetched and unrealistic. So this led me to always give people the excuse that I had to focus on graduating college first whenever asked about modeling. However, once I graduated from college, I realized there was nothing holding me back from starting my modeling career other than myself. My initial post-grad job hunt fueled my fire, even more, to get things started. I wasn’t landing any major jobs so I decided to trust God and step outside of my comfort zone with modeling. Though it challenges me in every way, I have fallen in love with this art. God has taught me to be still, enjoy where I am, and do all I can in the natural and allow Him to do the rest. I am currently working flexible hours as a restaurant server, which allows me to juggle modeling and extra gigs. Though I get frustrated with people telling me I should do more and be further, I trust God. So far, I’ve been blessed to experience fashion shows, photo shoots, and being published. I know I’m caked for a grater purpose so if modeling isn’t it I want to create longevity with acting.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m really big on embracing & becoming all that God has called us to be in this lifetime. We are all parts of His body, and it’s so important to flourish in the skin we’re in. With that being said, STAY IN YOUR LANE. I want to express in my walk, photos, and attitude that you have to BE YOU simply because no one else is you! There is only one of you, and that is your superpower! I’m learning not to conform to the world’s standards of beauty in the modeling industry. My aim is to spread love and be genuine about it in every setting I’m in, whether it be a casting call, backstage of a fashion show, or movie set. I just want to show the God in me and be transparent with others.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I think artists are challenged with clout. There’s a huge difference between doing things to receive proper recognition for being an artist and doing ridiculous things for attention from people you will never meet. We’re fortunate that technology connects us to so many people in so many parts of the world. Yet, it is up to us to use these platforms to showcase our brand in a good light. Remember, someone will always be watching so give them something actually worth watching.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
