Today we’d like to introduce you to Tobes44.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I had a bone marrow transplant in 2011/12. Spent five months in hospital, and wrote lyrics in that time. To tell my story. When my transplant was over, I did a few performances here and there but I never took music seriously because I didn’t think I was any good. I stopped for years and I started writing again in 2017. I released my first single on Soundcloud in April 2018 and since then I’ve been blessed. I recently changed my artist name to Tobes44 (four four)
Please tell us about your art.
I am a Nigerian, born and raised in London, England. My primary genre is Afroswing, which is typically UK artists who make music with African & Caribbean inspired beats and lyrics. This is what I’m most comfortable with and where I feel I can be successful. My art is confident, charismatic, saucy, fun, and I just want people to get a chance to experience the up and coming sounds from the UK.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Finding the right ways to make themselves known. To have their voices heard. Getting recognition and appropriate exposure without breaking the bank to pay over the odds.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Instagram and Twitter are the socials that I use most (@tobesff) but my music is on all streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Soundcloud, etc. You can type in Toboré for my older music but since I’ve rebranded with the name Tobes44, my new work will be under that name.
