Art & Life with Shawann Gadson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawann Gadson.

Shawann, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Fresh out of college, I quickly decided that I needed a change. All my life, I have been the goofy, outgoing friend and I figured it was time to use MY HUMOR in a more beneficial way. I then enrolled into a Level 1 improv class at ” The Steel City Improv Theatre,” in Pittsburgh, PA! This new venture changed my life! I soon decided to start auditioning for theatre and film gigs, which then pushed me to move to Atlanta for better opportunities. Right now for me, it is all about staying focus! I’m not worried about the money or anything else outside of doing what I enjoy. I love the arts. I’m pushing to make sure that my love continues to fuel me.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am an actress and comedian. I’ve done multiples short films, theatre, standup, and Improv in the past five years. About a year ago, I started posting comedy videoes/skits on my Instagram. In the beginning, I was extremely nervous to put myself out there on social media. However, I realized that I can’t allow fear to control me. I have a voice and I have a message for people. I want to eventually be that page you type in your browser when you are having a bad day. Or when you just feel like laughing! I truly believe that with patience, consistency and staying true to myself one day I will be that person.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I am that person! I am trying to figure it out as well. One thing that I learned is that you have to have faith. You have to believe that this dream you have will come true. That one day all your stress, concerns and struggles will be worth it. We just have to stay focus, put ten toes down and GRIND!
