Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona B.
Mona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a child, I’ve always had a passion for fashion and hair. Fashion and hair was something that always came natural to me. Growing up, I watched my Mom’s passion for fashion and hair. She attended cosmetology school where she studied hair. She taught me a lot about the craft. Originally from Michigan, I moved to Chicago to study fashion. From my college professors to my co-workers, and strangers would ask me about my style and hair and wanted to know how I achieved my looks. Everyone suggested that I start a YouTube Channel to showcase my talent. I knew if I started a channel, I wanted to inspire people.
In 2015, I started posting videos about my natural hair. At the time, there wasn’t many influencers with my hair type showcasing how to style afro textured hair. My channel started growing and took on a life of its own. My supporters “The MB Crew” keep me motivated to inspire. My mission is to teach women how to be confident inside and out about their appearance, and to embrace their natural hair. Also to show the world the beauty in natural hair and that short hair can be styled. I’ve had the pleasure of working and collaborating with big and small companies on my channel. My YouTube channel “Mona B.” currently sits at 90K+ Subscribers with over 9 Million views. I relocated to Atlanta, GA and I’ve continued my journey here with plans to expand my brand.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just like in any profession, you’ll have your ups and downs. I think for me what can be challenging at times is staying relevant and also topping what I’ve done previously. In my struggles, I always try to look on the brighter side of things. Struggles have helped me grow and to keep striving to my highest potential. I stay true to myself no matter.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a Social Media Influencer specializing in fashion and hair. I’m known for styling my short natural hair in many different styles that most people think you can’t achieve on with short hair. I’m proud that I’ve been able to inspire so many people all over the world. What sets me apart is how innovative I am with my techniques.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in God. He has carried me through this journey and I’m beyond thankful for all that he has blessed me with along the way.
