Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gabrielle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The L-Life is a safe haven for Autoimmune system disease warriors and advocates from all over the world, spotlighting Lupus! The L is standing for Luminous; to shed light, shine bright! I was inspired to start this organization after being diagnosed with Lupus in 2012, and a piggyback disease Transverse Myelitis in 2013. Facing many battles, and feeling very alone and misunderstood during those trials, I began seeking others living with Lupus, showing me that I am indeed not alone! I began attending the local lupus walks and summits, which inspired me to create my organization to bridge the gap between survivors and advocates, so others facing the same feelings of despair, and the ones that love them, they know they are not alone in this fight! Our main goal is to shed light on Lupus Awareness in the Southwest Atlanta community, to make information and our services accessible to all ages! We currently have an ongoing uniform closet, annual community service and volunteer opportunities and monthly community partnership ventures. We walk every year in Atlanta’s Lupus Walk and we are always welcoming new team and walk members! This year will be our 5th anniversary and our 5th year walking in the Lupus Walk at Piedmont Atlanta! We are a growing power team, with a lot of history to make!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest struggle being a nonprofit organization representing the autoimmune community, is being misunderstood. We don’t want to be viewed as a group of “Sick people and or caretakers .” Most assume we are just informational when that is the boundary we are trying to break! We are shedding light on lupus and autoimmune awareness in diverse ways, so it won’t seem repetitive or boring!
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
The L-Life welcomes every age, color and personality in need! We provide services for our official subscribed members! We provide financial support for doctoral transportation rides, spiritual and verbal support to those that reach out in need. We hold team meetings to hear every voice and ideas to better cater to our members and community! Being in the Southwest Atlanta community, we come across many schools in need of donated uniforms and supplies, so we have an ongoing uniform closet for our local schools! The L-Life is always looking for networking opportunities, so we hold an annual Popup shop to unite local entrepreneurs! We have Lupus Awareness merchandise; t-shirts and Fanny packs, available 24/7. We are home to the “Lupus Awareness Fanny Packs !” We hope you join our team!
What were you like growing up?
The impact that our organization has on this community is very important to us. There are not very many outlets here in Southwest Atlanta shedding light on autoimmune diseases in a positive way, which is our biggest goal to show society that people living with autoimmune diseases are Capable of reaching above and beyond! We are here to break boundaries!
