Today we’d like to introduce you to Markida Jones.
Markida, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My clients refer to me as MJ. I found my passion for makeup in the 9th or 10th grade. I remember having an after-school job at McDonald’s and saving up my paycheck to buy makeup from MAC. I learned everything that I know from watching Youtube.
Fast forward to the year 2017, I started accepting clients. I was a traveling makeup artist. I literally would travel to all parts of my city just to service my clients. In 2018, I started doing makeup out of a small corner in my mom’s living room. My clients really held me down. I was booked consistently. In 2020, I signed the lease for my FIRST makeup studio. Things began to get so much better for me from a business standpoint. In 2021, I created my own makeup brush cleaner and sold out on the first day! In 2022, I created a makeup Ebook for those that want to learn how to do their own makeup. It is now available on Etsy (MJ Makeup Artistry is the shop name). Now the year 2023, I’m in a new location and I am ready to take my makeup skills to the NEXT level.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. In my city, people glorify popularity. If you are not popular, you are bound to get overlooked. I am not a huge makeup artist (yet). I do not have a large following. But my work speaks for me. This makes the journey worth it!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist. I specialize in Natural & Soft glam makeup. I am mostly known for my Signature Natural Glam’ looks. (They are a HIT.) What sets me apart from others is that I’ve mastered these two glams so that I can deliver flawless looks on ALL of my clients – no matter their skin type!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Shoutout to my clients that have been with me since the living room! They deserve ALL of the credit. I am beyond grateful for these ladies!
