Olympia Mix-Brown’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Olympia Mix-Brown shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Olympia , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’m up pretty early to prepare for the day, I love posting my content in the morning, so by the end of the day I can go through all the comments! My followers are literally the best.

As a Middle School Educator, everyday is full of surprises! I get to work around 8:30 to greet my sixth grade students and from there… my day is full or learning, curiosity, teacher talks and lots of love- (and maybe a few middle school germs too)!
After dismissal, I love to relax, have a nice dinner and enjoy one of my favorite shows. I keep the weekdays pretty soft and chill…but the weekend, well that’s a different story 🙂

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the writer behind the motivational Instagram page – @_mymixedfeelings_
My page consists of motivational quotes and inspirational messages, all posted in my favorite color…PINK!
I started my page in 2021, and its grown to over 200K followers across Instagram, Facebook, Threads and TikTok. I’m so grateful for the community that I’ve built, All of my post and reels are handwritten, with the reels you can literally watch me write out the message in real time.

Right now, I’m in training to teach calligraphy classes and I can’t wait to welcome everyone to my first class!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Mom. Anytime I have the opportunity to thank my mom out loud, I have to do it! She sees the FULL me, and everyday she reminds of how special I am, how proud of me she is, and how beautiful I am on the inside and out! I love my mom for noticing the tiny details and recognizing the small battles that I fight everyday while also ALWAYS encouraging me to keep going. She’s really my greatest source of inspiration.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her to LIVE. Stay Present and keep the faith.
People always say life happens quick, and I truly believe that. Everyday, I’m working on being intentional about staying present and enjoying each moment and giving the people that I love and adore their flowers while I still can!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I always say “be kind”. I think it annoys my friends sometimes, because it’s not always the easiest thing to do. We are all human, we are going through something, and right now I think the most important thing we can do for one another is to be kind- not nice- but kind, because there is a difference.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“Olympia was kind” I hope people remember that about me. I’m extremely silly but also very empathetic, I want people to feel safe talking to me…knowing that alot of times, people just need a listening ear. I always try to lead and move from a place of love. That’s really important to me.
I definitely want my former students to remember how much I want the best for them!
…Oh and I hope everyone remembers my handwriting 🙂
