We recently had the chance to connect with D.O.L.O. and have shared our conversation below.
Hi D.O.L.O. , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day is crucial for the rest of my day. I usually start with waking up my wife and children to start their days and then I prepare to begin mines. I brush my teeth, wash my face and say the same daily prayer every single day. Afterwards I pick out my clothes for the day, meditate for a short while to focus my mind, and then either head out the door to drop my kids off at school or go to my office to start working on the last thing on my productivity list.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a driven lyricist and entrepreneur from Decatur, Georgia carving my path on this big ball of water we call home. The music I make pulses with raw energy and versatile rhythms, blending sharp and witty lyricism with infectious production, as heard on my 2022 project On A Run. My journey began in second grade, battling older emcees on the school bus, a spark that grew into a lifelong passion. Following the years of hard work and many tribulations I remained dedicated, releasing projects like the single ‘Move Differently” and performing as much as I could through the pandemic to keep everything in motion. With a live-for-the-moment ethos, I try to make music that resonates with fans, urging them to chase their passions and never let anyone or anything get in the way.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was always Christophor before I was D.O.L.O., a person who was set for greatness if you were to let my mom tell it. My great-grandmother, in all her prolific being, let my mother know from the beginning the children she brought forth would be, and do great things within this lifetime. From the start I was programmed to be an amazing person, I just had to grow into the greatness that was already there for me.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Some of the most defining wounds are the ones in which you never feel like you are going to receive, but you understand how they were meant to make you grow in some aspect of your life. In my younger years I used to get frustrated with people because I felt they should do certain things within our relationships to make me feel as though it is a warranted situation, but as I grew I learned more about the human mind and how we all react to certain stimuli based on our past. Most things shouldn’t be conditional and by no means is that how I conduct my relationships, but it’s natural to want to receive a certain level of reciprocation to feel there is a level of shared respect. Therefore, going down my learning path of creating mental boundaries and growing emotional capacity I realized leading with love is always the answer and value the people in your life for them entirely, good, bad and ugly. By doing this you will receive more from the connections you make and genuinely leave an impression with your outreach to others.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
1. Optimism is a choice and a strength | Every challenge holds a lesson or opportunity, driving you to find light in the darkest moments.
2. Effort defines excellence | Hard work and going beyond expectations is the path to achieving true greatness.
3. Purpose is divine and personal | Your role in the universe is divinely unique, guided by a higher calling to live out your true potential.
4. Resilience is transformative | Setbacks are raw material for growth, always turn your obstacles into stepping stones to get further down your path.
These are things which get me through my daily life and help me with my long term goals. I have developed and integrated them so much into how I live, it is now second nature to handle situations with these mantras in mind to create the most efficient outcome.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, because the only reason we are here is to fulfill the purpose GOD has laid for us to exemplify Him. Praises from anyone else are just extra pats on the back no matter how high the accolade. We have to remember this as we lead our paths in whatever it is we strive towards. If you start by seeking to please GOD with your endeavors then you will end them by pleasing Him. You would have become so great within your purpose, everything you need will naturally fall into place for you, but it all starts with recognizing and acknowledgement.
