Shawntavia Bell of Midtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Shawntavia Bell shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Shawntavia, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Yes. I believe standing up for what’s right is a non-negotiable. The cost is real, but the lesson is invaluable: loyalty and courage define character more than comfort ever will.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shawntavia Bell, and I’m the creator of Lyt Lab-a space where science and spirituality meet to spark self discovery, growth, and transformation. What makes Lyt Lab unique is our belief that life itself is a laboratory, and every experience is an experiment that reveals who we truly are.

I started this journey because I know what it’s like to search for clarity, wisdom, and meaning in a fast-moving world. Through my work, I share insights on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and the power of mindset so others can unlock their own “gold mind” within.

What excites me most right now is expanding Lyt Lab through storytelling–on platforms like podcasts, YouTube, and digital guides-designed to reach people who are ready to grow, heal, and transform their lives. This isn’t just about inspiration; it’s about creating real, practical tools that help people navigate challenges with confidence.

At its core, Lyt Lab is about light-turning awareness into power, and power into purpose. I’m here not only to share my story, but to help others uncover theirs.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people is usually a lack of understanding-when pride, fear, or miscommunication gets louder than compassion. What restores those bonds is humility, empathy, and the willingness to really see each other again. Connection lives in understanding.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d say, “Don’t be afraid of the experiments life puts you through–they’re shaping you. Every setback is data, every detour is direction. Trust the process, you’re becoming who you’re meant to be.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Overthinking vs. Awareness

Smart people often get it wrong by thinking their way through everything. Intelligence is powerful, but awareness is wisdom. You can be brilliant and still blind if you’re not self aware.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Life as the Lab

I’ve learned that life isn’t happening to us, it’s happening through us. Every challenge, every joy, every failure is data for the experiment. Most people miss the lesson because they only see the struggle.
