We recently had the chance to connect with Olabimpe Olaoye and have shared our conversation below.
Olabimpe, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 days of my days have been looking like:
Wake up
Pray
Get ready for the day!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bimpe Olaoye and as a Nigerian born citizen that has been raised in American since 1, I feel as though I have been able to gain a unique perspective on the concepts of beauty. At BBB, we are a beauty brand that emphasizes enhancing NATURAL beauty! We enjoy making women (and men) feel more confident in the skin that they are in! We are currently working on expanding beyond the world of lashing by adding more services, products, and ebooks to our catalog.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, my perception of beauty was WARPED! I used to believe that there were certain looks/features that made someone beautiful, and I did not feel like I possessed them. Being African in a predominantly White neighborhood definitely did not help the situation! As I grew into my adulthood, I started to see and appreciate the beauty in everyone and everything. I started to realize that we are all uniquely gorgeous and it is our confidence and the way we carry ourselves that may make us feel like we aren’t.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being perceived was something that hindered me and my growth in the most profound way. I used to be scared to be seen trying because failure was not an option to me. I quickly learned that being afraid to fail was not an option. It kept me stagnant because I was just scared to start. As I started coming out of my shell more around 2020, I saw that it was nothing but my own mind holding me back. I saw that there was really nothing to be afraid of, trying and failing is better than not trying at all.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Funny and corny enough, but “You Attitude is Your Altitude.” I used to HATE this saying so much as someone whose shyness/timidness has often been mistaken for an attitude. As I have grown though, I noticed that we were talking about more than just the negative emotions. When you show up in high spirits, the sun shines just a bit brighter. Waking up every morning with an attitude of gratitude has shifted the way that I show up in my everyday life. With my friends, with my clients, and with my coworkers!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Right now today, I am currently learning how to be still. If I had it my way, I would still be putting all of my focus on my business. Learning through my failures and success through experience. However, I am currently working in the corporate world and learning through my experience there. At first, I didn’t understand because I felt guilty that I was not focusing all of my time (or what was left of it rather) on furthering BBB. After sitting still for a moment, I remembered that in life, and business, there are seasons. So I am sitting in my season of Growth and Vigilance.
