We recently had the chance to connect with Mi’Kael Chalyce and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mi’Kael, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
A good book recommendation! Most people don’t know my day time profession is 8th grade English Teacher and fantasy romance is my favorite! I absolutely love getting lost in a new novel. I have a slightly addictive personality so once I start I can’t stop! I’m the type to finish a series in a weekend. Please send help!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Mi’Kael Chalyce—an artist, educator, and storyteller. As a singer-songwriter and performer, my brand lives at the intersection of soul, rap, and raw authenticity. As an educator, I pour into young people daily, and that same energy shows up in my art—honest, empowering, and rooted in real life.
What makes my story unique is that I don’t separate the lanes. The lessons I learn in the classroom shape the stories I tell in my music, and the resilience I’ve built as an artist flows back into my teaching. Right now, I’m working on a new project called The Reinvention—a body of work that explores growth, healing, and stepping unapologetically into the next chapter of my artistry. My mission is simple: to create music and experiences that move people, spark reflection, and remind us that we’re all capable of transformation
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Fear taught me lessons. Uncertainty made me resourceful. Hesitation slowed me down enough to find my pace. But their job is done—it’s time to live free. I’ve outgrown the weight of hesitation. Now I move with confidence, even when the path isn’t clear.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes — there were times I almost shut the door. This journey isn’t for the fickle. I’ve had people in the industry try to take advantage of me, whisper behind my back when all I gave was positivity, and even try to paint my personality in a bad light. Those moments made me question everything and wonder if I should walk away from music altogether.
But here’s the truth: those same wounds taught me boundaries, sharpened my instincts, and clarified my purpose. I decided I wasn’t finished — I was being refined. Now, I move with a little more armor and a lot more grace. I protect my energy, trust my circle, and let the music do the talking.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public me is pretty close to the real me — maybe a little less polished. What you see is what you get. I don’t like to add fluff to my profile; I’d rather just give you the music, the message, and give it to you raw.
If you meet me face-to-face, you’ll notice I’m way more of a tomboy than I might look online. I don’t wear makeup every day, I rarely put on skirts unless I have to, and most days you’ll catch me in leggings or sweats. That “put-together” persona doesn’t really come alive until I hit the stage. Offstage, I keep it chill — but it’s all me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people tell my story through my music. Everything I want people to know about me is already embedded in my lyrics — every word carries a piece of my journey. I’ve been through so much, I’ve grown, and I want others to feel like they can grow too. My hope is that when people listen, they hear their own story in mine — that they find resilience, perseverance, and the strength to keep going no matter what. If my music can live on as a reminder that healing and transformation are possible, then I’ve done my job.
