Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Essence Walcott of Sandy Springs

We recently had the chance to connect with Essence Walcott and have shared our conversation below.

Essence , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I’m chasing freedom, success, and legacy. For me it’s not just about money, it’s about building something that outlives me, a beauty empire that creates opportunities for others and makes women feel good inside and out. If I stopped, I’d feel like I’m settling and that’s not in me. I didn’t come this far just to stop. I’ve worked too hard, sacrificed too much, and inspired too many people to quit. Even on the tough days I remind myself that I’m building something bigger than me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Essence Walcott and I am the CEO and founder of Glow Up Essencials, a beauty salon and hair company based in Atlanta. I am also a licensed cosmetologist and Pro Makeup Artist who started my career in New York. Over the years I have worked alongside celebrity stylists and showcased my artistry at major events like New York Fashion Week. What makes my brand unique is that I combine hair, makeup, and wellness to create a luxury experience while also educating clients on healthy beauty practices. Beyond extensions and styling, I am building a brand that represents confidence, empowerment, and self-expression. At this stage I am focused on expanding my business, developing high quality hair extensions and wigs, and working toward opening a full salon that caters to all aspects of beauty.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe bonds between people are often broken by a lack of communication, honesty, and consistency. Trust is the foundation of any relationship, whether personal or professional, and once that foundation is shaken it can be hard to rebuild. What restores those bonds is accountability, patience, and genuine effort. When people show up consistently and are intentional about repairing the connection, healing becomes possible. To me, strong bonds are built and restored through transparency and respect.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the process and believe in her own power. Every challenge, every setback, and every doubt will shape you into the woman you are meant to be. You are capable of more than you realize, and everything you are dreaming about will come to you if you stay consistent and never stop betting on yourself.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what really matters to me is growth, independence, and making moves that count. They know I’m all about building something lasting, leveling up, and helping others shine along the way. Family, loyalty, and having people around me who inspire and uplift me are also huge.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. I have always been drawn to creating, connecting with people, and helping them feel confident and empowered. While others may have had opinions about what path I should take, I followed my own vision and built something that reflects my passion and purpose. Every step I’ve taken has been intentional, and I feel aligned with the work I’m meant to do.
