Story & Lesson Highlights with Cordae Omari

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Cordae Omari. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Cordae , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
A few things outside of work has been bringing me joy. Being on set for photoshoots and being on set for the Culture Clubb podcast has been so therapeutic for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Cordae Omari. Bold, Blunt and Unapologetic. I’m an ATLien by way of Birmingham, AL. I’ve been in Atlanta for a little over 4 years. In my time here I have managed to explore acting, modeling, entertaining and hosting.

I’ve been blessed to work with productions that include Tyler Perry, Wesley Henderson, Henderson Maddox, Rahjiv Staten and a few more. Acting has always been my escape from the real world. I’ve been featured in movies streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, ACTV+, Signal23TV and YouTube.

In addition to acting I’ve stepped into the world of podcast entertainment. I sit alongside 6 amazing men on Culture Clubb which airs on ACTV+ every Tuesday evening. We talk about a range of things from sex to politics to entertainment. Nothing is off limits on CC. Recently I’ve began working for Culture on the Streets (an extension of CC). In COTS I’m literally out in our community interviewing everyday people and getting my their take on what’s going on around us.

Modeling has always been a hobby for me and I so happened to meet some amazing photographers and creative directors in ATL. I’ve had the pleasures of working with Christian Powell, Los Photography and MTS Visuals. We have been published in several magazines including being featured on the cover pages.

My eye for creativity is one of the things that make me unique. I have a very unconventional approach to fashion and modeling. I’m only 5’4 in height so I have to make sure that whatever I do it’s bold and blunt.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I never believed I was good enough. I was always too short, too dark skinned or too feminine acting. But as an adult those are the things that make me beautifully unique. I’ve learned to embrace what some see as flaws and use them to empower myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Being a person who deals with depression there have been plenty of times I’ve wanted to give up on my dreams. When things seem to be moving slow or not going the way I planned it has frustrated me in the past. Fortunately I’m surrounded by love and support. My Husband Andrew is one of my biggest motivators. He doesn’t allow me to sit in my own pity. Also actively being in therapy has been amazing for my mental health. It helps me to push thru and obstacles that I may face in healthy ways.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would have to say yes and no. Whenever I’m out in public I always feel the need to be extra bubbly when people approach me. I never want to get the rep for being a mean person or being unapproachable. Being in entertainment taught me to always put my best face on even when I’m not having the best of days.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop wasting my time trying to please people who are always expecting more than they are willing to offer. I would stop second guessing my talent and explore more acting opportunities.
