Story & Lesson Highlights with Marci Fluellyn of Municipal Official

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marci Fluellyn. Check out our conversation below.

Marci, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My favorite way to start my day is with meditation and preparation time. I sit quietly with my creator in open examination of myself and my wellbeing. Taking the time to address anything that comes to the surface. Then I focus my thoughts on the activities of the day; my intentions and goals for the day. I close with prayer over my day and showing up as my best self fully prepared to give my best.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Marci Fluellyn, the Mayor of Lovejoy Georgia where Love meets Joy. I have the absolute pleasure of serving the amazing residents in bringing their wishes to life for our city. Preparing our city with services that meet the needs of our growing population while maintaining the quality of life for all that live, work and entertain in Lovejoy. Guiding development that’s progressive without impeding upon our family focused community. Ensuring our city provides support, services and outreach for all members of the family from pregnancy to our treasured senior citizens. Utilizing my 16+ years of municipal experience in advocating for over 15,000 residents is my calling, my passion and my purpose.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The women in my life have shaped the way I see myself today. My paternal grandmother fed into my heart, spirit and love for my tribe in my early years. My maternal grandmother fed into my backbone, esteem and sense of self in my teen years. My maternal aunt gave me the ability to dust it off (life’s pitfalls) and continue to stand as my true self. Each of these women saw something special in me and spoke into my future. Each of them in their own way making sure I understood that all the tribulations of growing up would make sense to me one day. One day I would turn around and see how everything had a purpose and plays a part in preparing me to walk a path of God’s choosing. And that the path may not look the way everyone else described it or “spoke” over me. It was my responsibility to find my own way in life because it would be my experience, no one else’s. And they each made it VERY clear, the best consultant on my life path was God, the source of unconditional pure love. I can hear them now; “God wants the best for you with no hidden agendas and no traps. Trust Him with all you do and you can’t go wrong. Even when you make mistakes, never let Him go and He will correct your path along the way.”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
How strong and resilient I am compared to what I thought! Success is an experience that requires humility because it’s a slippery moment that can change how you show up for others. Especially for anyone that’s suffered loss, regret, isolation, rejection or objectification. If you live long enough, you will experience one if not all of these trauma’s in one way or another and different levels of intensity. Without focusing on our own wellbeing and investments in our personal growth, success can bring out your weaknesses, shortcomings or worst attributes. It takes an intentional mind to remain grounded during success and ready for the pressure of “what’s next” after we experience success. Suffering gave me tough skin, powerful experiences, resilience, a wealth of knowledge and a habit of leaning on my own personal relationship with God through ALL walks of life…suffering, success and everything in between. Suffering at the hands of others taught me to be vigilant in being a loving reflection of our creator…being accountable for my actions. Love as you want to be loved. Treat as you want to be treated. Show up for others as you want them to show up for you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Developing the community our residents want today and for our future. Bringing their hopes, wishes and dreams to reality while shining the light on where our future generations fit into our forward vision. A community that is well connected and strong in representing and serving all generations is one that’s not only sustainable but powerful. The City of Lovejoy, where love meets joy for all members of our family from pregnancy to our golden seniors.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How my spirit and energy was an example of the city’s name…Lovejoy. How I embraced my responsibility to the community with sincerity, faith and tenacity. I pray our community is proud of how I listened and reflected their vision into our growth and development. Don’t get me wrong, I know I can’t make everyone happy. I do pray they see my heart and drive to represent the collective of over 15,000 residents with excellence. I hope they proudly say, “That was MY Mayor!”
