We’re looking forward to introducing you to Valentine Chukwuma. Check out our conversation below.
Valentine, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been finding a lot of joy in spending more time outdoors, especially hiking on weekends. It’s a great way to recharge, stay active, and gain a fresh perspective outside of the work environment. The balance it brings has really helped me return to work with more clarity and energy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chukwuma Valentine, and I’m an entrepreneur based in Nigeria. While I’m primarily known for my work as a professional retoucher, my skill set extends beyond that—I’m also active in trading the financial markets and creating engaging content. What sets my journey apart is my commitment to consistency; regardless of how I feel, I make it a priority to work on my skills every single day. It’s this discipline and dedication to growth that continue to drive both my personal and professional development.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Growing up, I believed that the world naturally favored kind and selfless individuals—and to an extent, it does. However, with time and experience, I came to understand the importance of setting boundaries and maintaining control over my time and energy. I realized that constantly trying to please others at the expense of my own well-being wasn’t sustainable. The turning point came when I learned to be intentional about how I spend my time and who I allow into my space. That shift empowered me to take ownership of my life—choosing what adds value and letting go of what doesn’t. It’s been a transformative journey toward balance, self-respect, and purposeful living.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I recently attended a small gathering where one of the key teachings focused on the importance of understanding our “dark side”—the parts of us shaped by past pain or difficult experiences. The message was clear: in order to grow and move forward, we must first acknowledge these parts of ourselves, accept them, and ultimately forgive what has hurt us. Carrying emotional baggage only hinders our ability to progress. This process of acceptance and healing closely mirrors what many refer to as a spiritual awakening—a deeper awareness of self that allows for clarity, inner peace, and personal transformation. It was a powerful reminder that true growth often begins from within.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
yeah…. of course no time for fake
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I’ve been fully committed to this journey. If I hadn’t given it my best, I wouldn’t be where I am today as an entrepreneur. Every step has required focus, resilience, and intentional effort. I believe in striving for excellence in everything I do—and with that mindset, the sky is not my limit, it’s only the starting point.
