An Inspired Chat with Joey Wallace of Atlanta

We recently had the chance to connect with Joey Wallace and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joey, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
So, running one of Atlanta’s top wedding photography company is pretty eventful actually, and there’s rarely a quiet day for us!
If we weren’t talking to clients and planning for our next wedding, we are likely in a war-zone like environment, on the field, shooting people’s precious memories, and we love it!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an Atlanta local who always has a camera in hand and a soft spot for good stories. I’m a big believer that life’s best moments aren’t staged — they happen in the in-between, when people are just being themselves. That’s what I love most about photography: catching the real stuff, the little looks and big laughs you’ll want to remember years from now.
When I’m not behind the lens, you’ll probably find me exploring Atlanta’s parks with my wife and 2 year old, hanging out with friends, or plotting my next vacation trip. I’m easygoing, a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to details, and happiest when I get to connect with people and make them feel comfortable.
At the end of the day, I’m just someone who loves people, loves stories, and feels lucky that I get to turn both into photographs.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Nothing too wild, I think—just the usual stuff: Santa, mermaids, moon landings… haha, just kidding!
Like most kids, I always dreamed of doing something big and helping people—superhero style. I had a few chances to do that growing up, but I have never felt better than now, while seeing people genuinely enjoying themselves and trusting me and my team to capture their life memories in the most meaningful ways possible.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
Wedding photography is not always about doing what you think is best. Sometimes you will need to step back and capture the moment is it unfolds, this moment may not look perfect through your lens, but it is, in someone’s eyes,

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I don’t think so! I work hard to keep my goofy side in check, preferring to be the courteous professional that most people appreciate—even if it means making a few temporary enemies along the way.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Certainly spend more time with family and enjoy life more, but will also continue to photograph people beautiful smiles.
