Rhashanda Rochester on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Rhashanda Rochester and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhashanda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My family! Of course, people see my family in the physical, but just to know behind the scenes how much I’ve had to sacrifice to pour into my 5 children, as well as my relationship with my husband to now see them all flourish. It just brings me such a joy. My oldest just graduated from West Georgia with his bachelor degree in accounting, my second oldest graduated the Marine Corps this past summer and my third oldest just went off to college. My two little ones (3,7) are flourishing as well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rhashanda Rochester, and I proudly identify as a serial entrepreneur. I manage multiple businesses, but the one closest to my heart is The Candle Station. Even during challenging times when I felt like giving up, I persevered and continued to grow. I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia, where I was born and raised, and I have recently relocated to the serene countryside of Georgia to embrace a simpler lifestyle. My family and I enjoy our own fishing pond on our property, cherishing the tranquility of nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Currently, I am expanding my business in a small town while also exploring new entrepreneurial ventures.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Observing my parents as they navigated their careers profoundly influenced my perspective on work. My mother built her tax business from the ground up; I remember riding along in the car with her as she took clients on weekends, eventually welcoming over 500 clients to our home for their tax needs. My father retired from Ford after dedicating countless hours to his job and also ran a turnkey business during the early years. Both of my parents were entrepreneurial and set goals that they successfully achieved. My mother instilled many valuable lessons in us. May she rest in peace.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I faced numerous moments of doubt, and there was a time when I even considered giving up on my candle business. I remember feeling on top of the world when I first entered the market, but with its saturation and personal challenges – such as welcoming my last two children and navigating health issues – life became overwhelming. I had to take a step back, unsure if I would restart or completely begin anew, as it felt like starting from scratch. However, I find myself in a season of restoration now, and I am excited to see what lies ahead. Sometimes, it’s essential to take a break, step back, and regroup when needed.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stop stressing
