We recently had the chance to connect with Tonya Baynes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tonya, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have recently started a new hobby, hand knitting. I knit with chunky yarn using only my hands. I have found that other than my jewelry this is something that I really enjoy doing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Tonya Baynes owner of Bracelets by Tonya. I have been making bracelets and other jewelry since 2012. I use natural stones when making my bracelets. I put every effort in searching for quality beads. It is very rewarding when I can create a piece for a customer. I love to showcase my work at craft events around Atlanta and other parts of Georgia.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe lies and dishonesty breaks the bond between people. I think once that bond is broken it is nearly impossible to restore it, because it will be hard to trust that person who broke the bond again.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to stop blaming, and beating yourself up for situations that you had no control over. What’s done is done, and you are a stronger person now. Through it all you came out on top.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I’m the same version of me all the time. I have no reason to be any different no matter where I am. If I were then that would be fake and phony and I am neither. I’m a down to earth genuine person all the time.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
How could I do anything but my best? It doesn’t matter if I’m praised for it or not. As long as I know I did my best nothing anyone has to say matters. I don’t do my best to get praise. I do my best for me. I give myself praise for a job well done.
