Shamara Jackson on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Shamara Jackson and have shared our conversation below.

Shamara, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
There’s a couples things that can really bring me joy outside of running my business. One thing that I absolutely love to do is eat. I find myself scrolling on TikTok, looking through Pinterest at so many food ideas that I would like to try. I’ve found myself another hobby and that is baking. Being in the kitchen for me is so therapeutic. All I need is my cooking items and some music, the fun begins immediately after that.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi you guys,
My name is Shamara. I am the face behind my beauty business True Beauty Palace. I’ve been in business now for 5 years and this year I’ve decided to take a leap of faith and go full time. My business consists of selling beauty products such as lash strips, lash clusters, my own lipgloss line and lip care products. I offer services where I enhance the queens and kings natural glow. I specialize in brow services such as brow tinting and hybrid stain brows. I also offer lash clusters services to those who want a quicker route with lashes.

I would like to say what makes my business so unique is that I throw in ways to be creative. From making fun and creative content, to having pretty creative lipgloss tubes, and bringing creativity in freestyle clusters looks. I like to stand out by promoting my business in the most creative ways I know that will grab the audience attention.

Being that I like to stand out and be different I believe that’s a way True Beauty Palace has been growing and I’m able to reach more clients and customers.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Many of us live in our head. We may have self doubt, we may feel like it’s certain things we can not do. We tend to compare ourselves to others, while also living in procrastinating. I had to fully understand that the moment I release negative thoughts, the doubting of myself, the comparison of others, the moment I will be able to focus and give my full potential. We all have our own journey and that’s the best about never giving up. The moment you decide that you will do something and give it your all regardless of how you may feel will equal up to some of the best results.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could go back and tell my younger self something it would be…it’s okay to not be okay. As a child and in my younger stages of life I was the kind of person who kept a lot of things in. I would pretend to be okay with actually not being okay. I would find myself just doing things to ease my mind or do things that would require me to not dwell on how I felt. Knowing that I am older, I have learn that it’s okay to have emotions and actually don’t feel bad for feeling a certain way. Have things to do that will actually switch the shift of your emotions in a positive way. Have someone that you can talk too as well without feeling like you have to hold everything in. I am thankful that I am able to sit and understand my feelings more and have a better head space of how to control my feelings.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
This is like a no brainer…They would definitely say my business. My business is truly my heart. Every since I started True Beauty Palace, I just knew this was something that I would be seeing myself do for the long run. Even through the ups and downs of running a business; those moments really make having a business the best part. Seeing myself invest in my business, seeing so many clients, so many customers, the content I create, the word from others regarding my business and so much more. Now that I am a full time entrepreneur, it’s like so many things that I have prayed for regarding my business is actually happening in real life time. I can only thank God for the continuous blessings and opportunities.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Simple, Yes. Since running a business, you will realize that you do not need everyone approvals or hand claps for something that you yourself believe in. When people tend to think that everyone must clap or cheer for you and you don’t receive the outcome you are looking for then come the mixed feelings and doubtful thoughts. When you have faith in what you are doing you don’t need the extra doubtful, or the ones who do not show up for you around you. Understand that if God gave you the vision, he will give you the right supporters behind the idea.
