David Bostic Jr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
David , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first thing I do as soon as I open my eyes is my Spanish lesson on Duolingo. I’m currently on a 562-day streak! (Humble brag, lol.) Then I listen to a sermon from Dr. Myles Munroe, get a quick workout in, shower, and eat some fruit. By that time, it’s usually time to start my workday. That’s what the first 90 minutes of my day consist of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is David Bostic, but my friends call me DB. I’m a self taught artist and the creator behind Windsor Street, an Atlanta-based art brand that specializes in customized wooden art pieces, home décor, and unique furniture. The exclusivity of the pieces I make is what makes my brand so interesting. Nine times out of ten, what I create is something you’ve never seen before and has never been made before. My ultimate goal is to open an art gallery here in Atlanta.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
For me personally, inauthenticity, disrespect, and lying will break the bond. I also recently realized that I really dislike “friends” who pay close attention to everything I do but choose not to interact or show support. That breaks the bond as well, though not in an extreme way. All bonds broken with me are final. Not in a negative sense, but simply because there are billions of people in this world. If a bond is broken, I’d rather we both go our separate ways and have the opportunity to build new, meaningful connections with others.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that you are capable of doing and having whatever you desire. Growing up in the environment that I did, I didn’t see myself represented in higher level positions, and this ultimately programmed me to think that the nicer things in life or higher level jobs weren’t for me, or that I wasn’t capable. Now I know that anything is possible, and I can do and have anything I want.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, for sure. What I show is indeed the real me. Laid back and low key. But I can say that I do gatekeep certain aspects of my life. While I have a growing brand and feel somewhat obligated to share parts of myself, I still value my privacy in certain areas.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating or out in nature. Outside of making art, I’m really into hiking, fishing, or anything outdoorsy. Especially if it’s near the water.
