Steven Perez of Canton on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Steven Perez and have shared our conversation below.

Steven, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I make a cup of coffee, do a workout while I brainstorm new ideas and then I eat breakfast. After that, I check emails and messages and prepare for what I have to work on that day/night.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a filmmaker, composer, and podcast producer. I’ve worked in the entertainment industry for over 20 years in music, tv/film, and podcasting. I am the founder/owner of Barred Owl Productions and I am also currently a Senior Producer at Tenderfoot TV.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The moment I picked up a guitar when I was 14 and started to teach myself how to play my favorite songs.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re never as bad as they say you are and you’re never not as good as they say you are. Just make sure you love what you do and you love what you’re making.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to have to be born with that special “it” factor in order to make it in this industry.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m creating music.
