Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Nguyen.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think my obsession with music started as child from playing Guitar Hero on my mom’s BlackBerry phone, which I would play for hours on end every single day after school. I have always loved rhythm games (especially Osu!), but at the time, the thought of actually the creating music never crossed my mind for whatever reason. But, that all changed when I had a friend teach me how to use FL Studio, and my new obsession with music production had begun. It’s been over 6 years since then, and music as a whole has become an inseparable part of my life and identity as a person.
Now, I work professionally as a music producer, both locally (in-house producer at Fresco’s Recording Services in Pensacola, FL) and globally with artists from all around the world. I love and work with many different genres, ranging from acoustic, instrumental, r&b, funk, hip-hop, to electronic and K-pop. Along with music production, I also mix, master, engineer, as well as help artists with social media management, marketing, content creation, and promotion, and have had the fortunate opportunity to gain experience from working with people with major labels and companies like Sony, Interscope, Empire, and HYBE.
My dream is to continually and steadily grow with my team and eventually create a platform and place for others to explore their creative interests and gain experience and opportunities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Man, has anyone who has pursued a creative path ever had a smooth journey?
There have been plenty of times where I have stopped making music for days, weeks, months on end, times where I wanted to quit entirely and do something else – times where I thought I was wasting my time. Many of these feelings stemmed from how much I compared myself to others and how much I’ve neglected my life outside of music due to my obsession with it. Other times, from the lack of support from my own family and having to push myself by myself, or being unable to help others due to living on the edge from sacrificing so much.
While life is inherently a road of volatility with its up’s and down’s, I believe it is never without its merits as creativity feeds off of our own experiences. And, what is a life lived without exploration?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a music producer, composer, musician (amateur), mix & master engineer (amateur), as well focus on social media management on the side, which includes marketing, promotion, and content creation (videography and photography).
Of my achievements, I believe I am most proud of being offered the opportunity to work as an in-house producer for HYBE (Big Hit Entertainment at the time) after passing their Next New Creator producer audition in 2019. It is an experience I hold dear to my heart, one that has kept my passion for music burning on, even in my darkest times.
As for what sets me apart from others? Maybe it would be my ability to work with many different genres, including having an open-mindset that welcomes any idea; I also appreciate and strive for teamwork and collaboration as we all have our strengths that cover each other’s weaknesses.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
YouTube and Reddit hands down.
