Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Zero.
Hi Ricky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing music as a teenager – just for fun. I got more serious after high school. By my late 20s, I was playing music as my full-time job, recording music that I’d written and touring around the United States.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This feels like the kind of question that I’m supposed to answer by saying that there were a lot of struggles and that I had to work harder than anyone has ever worked in the history of work to get to where I am today, but I’ve actually been lucky. Sure, I’ve worked to accomplish the things that I wanted to accomplish, but it has certainly been easier than some of the day jobs that I had when I was younger. I think success comes largely from being lucky, being persistent, and being prepared to take advantage of good situations when they arise…but mostly luck.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What do I do? I write music. I play in several bands.
I don’t know that I specialize in anything in particular.
What am I known for? Nothing. I’m not known.
I suppose the thing of which I’m most proud is making a living in music for many years. I was told as a kid that it wasn’t possible…or at best, like winning the lottery. I guess I won the lottery? It feels more like I just showed up.
What sets me apart from others? Absolutely nothing. There are a thousand other musicians in Atlanta pretty much just like me. I’m sure that many of them are better at everything that I do than I am.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Usually when I hear people ask, “How can people work with you?,” the question is rhetorical and asked with a tremendous amount of frustration.
