Check Out John Hartman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Hartman.

Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After the results of the 2024 election I decided to get more involved in politics to help my community and be an advocate for those who felt scared to speak out due to potential backlash. As a veteran, my willingness to serve and protect didn’t end when I left the Army, but continues today through my work in politics. I began in the Young Democrats of Chatham County, and over the past couple years, have sat on the Board of Directors for the Young Democrats of Georgia, became President of Chatham Young Dems, helped restart the Young Dems Veterans Caucus, and work closely with Men4Choice as an advocate for reproductive rights/freedom/judtice. My focus has always been helping get Democrats elected, specifically in Coastal Georgia where we have the opportunity to flip seats blue in November. I hope to continue this work with my political consulting business that I’m working to get started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but smooth haha. Working in politics is not something anyone can be trained for, and comes with a lot of hard lessons that have to be learned by experience. I think the biggest hurdle, and something it took me some time to learn, is to check your ego at the door. Advocacy always requires working towards the big picture, and sometimes that requires you to check yourself so that the job can get done.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently volunteer with the Young Democrats of Georgia! I am the current president of the Young Democrats of Chatham county, and chair of the Young Democrats of Georgia’s Veterans Caucus. I also sit on the Georgia Alumni Board for Men4Choice, where I also help advocate for reproductive rights. I’m currently working on starting my own freelance consulting business, to help Democrats get elected across the state; specifically helping candidates in South GA flip seats blue.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In politics, it can be hard to not just be known as “that guy who works in politics,” so I really enjoy this question! I love to play guitar to unwind, but most people don’t know that I got into Berklee School of Music in highschool! Music is truly my lifeblood, and you’ll always find me listening to everything, from Tupac, to Iron Maiden, to Olivia Rodrigo! I’m also a huge fan of Magic The Gathering, and play pretty religiously during my free time!
