Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Williams.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is really a story about purpose and faith. I’ve always had a heart for helping people, and becoming a therapist allowed me to combine that passion with something I truly believe is important—creating a safe space where people can be honest about what they’re going through without feeling judged.
When I started Because of Grace Counseling and Therapeutic Services, I honestly started it completely in faith. I felt like this was my calling, but that didn’t mean I didn’t have questions or doubts. I wondered if people would really want a therapy practice that incorporated spirituality and Christian beliefs into the therapeutic process. I knew it was something I wanted to offer, but I wasn’t sure how it would be received.
What I’ve discovered has been really encouraging. There are so many people who want their faith to be part of their healing journey and have been looking for a space where they can talk openly about both their mental health and their relationship with God. I’ve realized that what I initially wondered might be a limitation has actually become one of the things that makes the practice unique.
The name “Because of Grace” is meaningful to me because grace has played such an important role in my own life. It reminds me that we don’t have to have everything figured out before we deserve support, healing, and the opportunity to grow.
What started as a step of faith has grown into a practice that I’m genuinely proud of. I’m still growing and figuring things out along the way, but I love being able to look back and see how far it has come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, not at all. I definitely wouldn’t describe it as a smooth road, but I think the challenges have been part of what shaped me and the therapist and business owner I am today.
Starting a business while working full-time, building a client base, figuring out the business side of things, and learning how to balance everything has definitely stretched me. There have been moments when I’ve questioned whether I was doing enough, whether I was making the right decisions, or whether this was really going to work.
But I’ve learned that growth rarely looks the way we expect it to. Sometimes it looks like taking a step forward, sometimes it looks like changing direction, and sometimes it looks like simply refusing to give up.
I think those experiences also help me connect with my clients. I’m not sitting across from them pretending that life is always easy or that I have everything figured out. I understand what it feels like to be navigating change, uncertainty, and trying to become the best version of yourself while still dealing with real life.
Looking back, I’m actually grateful that it hasn’t been completely smooth. Some of the hardest parts have strengthened my faith, taught me to trust the process, and reminded me why I started in the first place.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Because of Grace Counseling and Therapeutic Services?
Because of Grace Counseling and Therapeutic Services is a mental health practice focused on helping people navigate life with more clarity, confidence, and peace. While the practice is based in the Atlanta area, I currently provide services to clients in both Georgia and Nevada through telehealth.
I primarily work with older adolescents and adults who are dealing with things like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, relationship and boundary issues, and major life transitions. My approach is warm, direct, and solution-focused. I want my clients to feel comfortable being themselves, but I also believe in challenging them when necessary because sometimes growth requires us to be honest with ourselves.
One of the things that makes Because of Grace different is that clients have the option to incorporate their Christian faith into therapy if they desire. For clients who want that, I may use biblical principles, scripture, and faith-based perspectives as therapeutic tools alongside traditional therapeutic approaches.
I think that gives clients the freedom to be fully transparent about every part of their lives. If faith is an important part of who you are, you shouldn’t have to leave that part of yourself at the door when you walk into therapy.
At the same time, faith-based therapy isn’t something that is forced on anyone. My goal is to meet people where they are and provide a space that respects their individual beliefs, needs, and goals.
Because of Grace is ultimately about giving people permission to heal, grow, and become who they were meant to be—mind, body, and spirit.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success isn’t just about how much money the business makes or how many clients I have. Those things are important because a business has to be sustainable, but they aren’t the reason I started it.
I started Because of Grace because I truly felt called to do this. So for me, success is being able to see that what started as a step of faith is actually making an impact in people’s lives.
As Because of Grace continues to grow, it allows me to help more people, creates opportunities to expand access to mental health care, and gives people a space where they can address both their mental health and their faith if they choose to, I consider that success.
I also think success is being able to look at what I’ve built and say, “I’m proud of this.” Not because it’s perfect, but because I built it with intention and stayed true to why I started.
At the end of the day, if I’m helping people heal while building something that reflects my values and the purpose I believe God gave me, that’s success to me.
