Community Highlights: Meet Marion Githegi of Be Scene: Director’s Cut

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marion Githegi.

Hi Marion, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up my dream was to play in the WNBA, but at 5’3″ and Kenyan with a natural disposition for long distance running, that was a bluesky dream. But I still pursued it. Basketball took me to Prep School in New Hampshire on a basketball Scholarship, Represented the Kenyan National Women’s Team in the FIBA All Africa Games, and landed another basketball scholarship at a Christian College in Georgia. Basketball taught me one thing, if I wanted something badly enough, then the only person getting in my way was me. So when basketball came to a crashing halt after an injury and I needed to pick a new path, God eventually led me to acting. With only 9 months of parttime acting under my belt, I managed to secure a place at LAMDA Drama School, one of the top and most competitive drama schools in the UK. That experience was amazing and solidified my desire to be an actress. But as a newbie in the industry, I had a lot to learn post graduation. Patience being one of them. My lack of patience was both a blessing and a vice. It led me to starting Be Scene: Director’s Cut, a growing platform for showcasing creatives. But it also led me to being impatient with my acting career. However, where I am now, the knowledge and connections I have, I would not trade for a thing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth pursuing is smooth, as much as we would like it to be. The struggles have mainly been financial. I’ve been balancing producing, editing, marketing, acting, hosting and financing Be Scene, while also growing my acting career, while also finding means to live. It’s been a struggle for sure, but every time I wanted to quit, God sent someone to encourage me to keep going. Now I can’t quit because I know there is something greater on the other side.

As you know, we’re big fans of Be Scene: Director’s Cut. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Be Scene: Director’s Cut is a platform that follows me, Marion, as the actress, as I learn from world class Directors, Acting Coaches and Industry Professionals. I document everything and share it with viewers on Youtube and all my social media platforms.

What sets this apart from anyone out there is that not only does it showcase me as an actress, but it showcases emerging and established Directors, Coaches, Pro’s as well as actors and emerging directors. It’s a platform by a creative, for creatives.

What I’m most proud of. Some of my guests have received job opportunities because someone came across their content on my platform. For me, showcasing others brings me the most joy.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a self help nerd. I’m also not as consistent as I should be, but I pray and read my bible because for me, God is the ultimate source of wisdom and guidance. But I also listen to the likes of Joseph Murphy, Napoleon Hill, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, and preachers as well.

As a former athlete, eating clean and working out is a must do. That’s what keeps me disciplined and focused. The food we consume has a direct impact on our mood and performance. I Also don’t play with sleep! Sleep is the most underrated form of mental focus and stress relief out there, so I prioritize that at all costs.

We have heard the saying your network is your networth. Our ears are also the gateway to our brain, so I’m very careful about what I listen to, and purposely listen to great men and women who speak wisdom.
