Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Thomas, Esq..
Hi Queen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer, so I went to law school. After graduating from Howard University School of Law, I focused on the Entertainment/IP and Contracts areas of law. I had an internship with the Discovery Channel, I worked at a boutique entertainment law firm, and I had positions in- house at tech companies. In those positions, I drafted, negotiated and closed deals for entertainment artists, partnerships, commercial vendors, and everything in between. While I was making strides in my professional career, I traveled often and built my presence on social media. Last year, I was let go from my corporate position and I had no idea what to do with my career. Should I go full time with my content, although I wasn’t even really getting paid from partnerships yet. I was applying to jobs and constantly being rejected.
I kept noticing creators vent about not knowing certain terms in their contracts and then it hit me. I need to use my educational skills to help other creators understand what their contracts say. In January 2026, I created Simplify, a contract review company for all creators. We offer a free consultation, contract breakdown and negotiations if needed at a reasonable price.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. This isn’t my first business, so I understand it takes time for people to get familiar with the company and understand how it benefits them. Mostly the struggles are gaining exposure and signing clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Simplify?
Simplify specializes in providing clients with clear contract terms they can understand. Our clients have the options of requesting a review of a specific issue to address, like usage, or you may need a full contract review; we offer both. We also negotiate deals for our clients, if a partnership company, for example, wants to negotiate a rate previously agreed upon.
Simplify is for creators of all sizes, micro to macro creators. We are also happy to work with small businesses. What sets Simplify apart from other similar companies, Simplify is here to help people understand their agreements at a reasonable price and the founder is a lawyer and creator that understands how brand deals work. Some creators are able to hire a law firm, or have a lawyer on retainer. Simplify is here to be a reasonably priced legal source.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson is to always listen to your intuition and never wait for anyone to go after your ideas. I had no idea how being a lawyer and content creator work out long term, and now I feel like I have cracked the code.
