Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Dixon, MBA.

Hi Toni, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has been shaped by faith, resilience, and a deep belief that difficult experiences can be transformed into meaningful service.

I am an Atlanta native, a mother of four, and a nonprofit development professional with nearly 20 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, nonprofit management, program development, marketing, and strategic planning. Throughout my career, I have helped organizations raise over $32 million, develop sustainable programs, strengthen their infrastructure, and communicate their impact more effectively. I have also had the privilege of contributing to major initiatives, including helping secure a $1 million lead gift for a capital campaign for Atlanta Mission, the largest homelessness service provider in Atlanta.
My professional work eventually led me to create Nonprofit Today Inc., formerly Opulentia Incorporated. I founded the company because I saw how passionate people wanted to change their communities but lacked the guidance, structure, and resources to build sustainable organizations. Starting a nonprofit can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to understand incorporation, IRS requirements, governance, fundraising, budgeting, compliance, and program development all at once.

Through Nonprofit Today, I help nonprofit founders by helping them in “Turning Dreams Into Impact.” We provide nonprofit formation services, strategic planning, grant writing and management, fundraising support, program development, training, coaching, and practical tools for emerging nonprofit leaders. My goal is to make nonprofit development understandable and financially accessible so that founders can build organizations that are not only inspiring but also compliant, credible, and prepared for funding.

While Nonprofit Today grew from my professional experience, Rest House Inc., my nonprofit, grew from my personal story.
After 25 years of marriage, my family experienced a devastating revelation involving abuse within our home. That discovery changed everything I thought I knew about my life and required my children and me to rebuild from the ground up. The journey that followed included grief, trauma, healing, faith, and the difficult work of creating a new life after the foundation of the old one had been shattered.

During that season, I learned that survival and healing are not the same thing. Women are often expected to continue caring for everyone else while privately carrying trauma, exhaustion, grief, and fear. I began to envision a place where women could pause, receive support, reconnect with hope, and obtain the resources they needed to heal.

That vision became Rest House Inc. Rest House supports women and families affected by trauma, abuse, burnout, grief, and major life transitions. We are creating pathways to mental-health care, restorative experiences, faith-centered encouragement, practical resources, and a compassionate community. One of our priorities is connecting women and their children with qualified mental-health professionals, helping reduce the cost of therapy, and assisting eligible families in accessing victim-assistance resources.

Today, my two organizations represent different parts of the same calling. Rest House Inc. helps women rebuild their lives, while Nonprofit Today Inc. helps visionary leaders build organizations that can transform their communities. Both were born from what I have learned professionally and personally: a dream becomes impactful when it is supported by the right structure, resources, faith, and community.

I did not arrive here through a perfectly mapped-out plan. I arrived here by being faithful to my calling, continuing to move forward, allowing my experiences to deepen my purpose, and choosing to be resilient and to use what I have survived and learned to create opportunities for others. My story is still being written, but today I am building the kinds of organizations I once needed; organizations that help people find clarity, support, restoration, and hope.

I have spent nearly 20 years working in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, program development, marketing, and organizational leadership. I have raised millions of dollars, helped organizations secure major gifts and grants, developed new programs, and worked alongside nonprofit leaders facing the same challenges my clients experience. I bring that practical perspective into every engagement.
I am also proud to have maintained a 100% approval record for the nonprofit tax-exemption applications I have prepared. However, I am even more proud of the confidence our clients gain throughout the process. Many come to us feeling overwhelmed, unsure of where to begin, or afraid of making an expensive mistake. Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that has been most important to my success is resilience. It is the ability to keep moving forward, even when the path changes unexpectedly.

My professional and personal journeys have both required me to rebuild, adapt, and begin again. I have learned that resilience is not pretending that difficult experiences do not hurt. It is allowing yourself to acknowledge what happened, learn from it, and decide that it will not have the final word over your life.

That same resilience shapes the way I approach business. Entrepreneurship and nonprofit leadership rarely follow a straight line. There are rejected proposals, limited resources, changing plans, and moments when progress feels slower than expected. I have developed the ability to step back, reassess the situation, adjust the strategy, and continue working toward the vision.

My faith is the foundation of that resilience. It helps me see possibility when circumstances appear uncertain and reminds me that even painful experiences can eventually produce purpose. I am naturally optimistic, but my optimism is not passive. It is paired with preparation, persistence, and a willingness to do the work.

Resilience has allowed me to transform professional challenges into expertise, personal hardship into service, and ideas into organizations that help others. I may not always be able to control what happens, but I can choose how I respond, what I build from it, and how I use what I have learned to create opportunities for someone else.
