Meet Gladys Natalia Sugiharto of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gladys Natalia Sugiharto.

Hi Gladys Natalia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since high school, I’ve shared a particularly close bond with my aunt
a woman who has always moved through life with elegance
She taught me about luxury brands and how to recognize quality
She bought me my very first designer bags & fashion
an iconic Louis Vuitton Damier bag
and a red Louis Vuitton Epi leather bag as well as a classic Burberry button-up shirt

My growing appreciation for fashion brought me back to something I had loved since childhood: drawing.
That connection inspired me to take a fashion course and explore my creativity in a new way. Little did I know that something as simple as learning how to sketch would become my first step into the world of fashion.

That growing passion eventually took me to Sydney, Australia, where I applied to fashion school
The sketches I had created during my previous course became part of my portfolio
which allowed me to skip the foundation level and move directly to the next stage of the school program.
As is common for students living overseas for the first time, there was naturally a period of adjustment and It was only a brief period of homesickness
Around the same time, my best friend had moved to Shanghai for school, so I decided to transfer there and continue my studies

While I was in the process of transferring schools, I made a last-minute decision to participate in a fashion show organized by the fashion institute where I had taken my sketch course.
I only had three months to prepare, and somehow, for my very first fashion show, I chose to create a wedding gown collection even though I had never learned how to make wedding gowns before
So I hired an experienced pattern maker and sewer who had worked for a bridal company, and together we turned my sketches into real gowns

Then i moved to Shanghai to study fashion, but somehow, life outside the classroom became far more interesting
There were endless parties, spontaneous travels, new places to discover, and something exciting fun happening almost every day
I may not have learned anything about fashion in Shanghai, but those years gave me some of the happiest memories of my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After Shanghai, a new chapter of my life began.
At the time, I moved to the capital city
& was dating with my boyfriend who is very ambitious and had already built a successful food brand at such a young age
Sharing his everyday life exposed me to the entrepreneurial mindset and lifestyle

that influence gave me the courage to take a leap of my own.
So I opened my own bridal company GLADYSPOSA in the capital city
with no real knowledge of the wedding industry & very little experience in bridal design
But that was exactly how I learned: by doing.
I learned how to find the right people and build a team around me.
I learned how a wedding gown went from a sketch to an actual dress and how the bridal industry worked

I wasn’t only building a business. I was also building a new life in a city that wasn’t my hometown. I had to adapt to a different environment, meet new people, make new friends, and create my own network

My personal formula for success has always been a combination of blessings, the right environment, and the people we choose to surround ourselves with.

I’m deeply grateful for all the people I met along the way
those who supported me, helped me when I needed it, and gave me opportunities that allowed my business to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For me, fashion and bridal design have always been a form of meditation. When I’m designing, ideas seem to flow effortlessly from instinct

I simply follow where my creativity takes me, and there is something incredibly peaceful and joyful about that process.
It has never felt like just work to me; it is something that brings me genuine joy

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
There was a long period in my life when work simply wasn’t my priority. I was having too much fun, partying, travelling
I wasn’t very productive during those years, but that chapter of my life gave me some of my happiest moments, filled with fun, friendships, adventures, and memories I wouldn’t trade for anything.
In my view, not every chapter of life has to be productive to be meaningful

I realized that fashion and music are the two creative worlds I naturally keep coming back to
This year, I decided to return to fashion courses and preparing for my work
Also joining music school

My passions bring me a lot of joy.

Being surrounded by creative and achievement-driven people is something I’m genuinely grateful for

Their energy inspires me become a better version of myself.
In my view
learning, creating, and achieving have simply become another way of having fun
The definition of fun has simply expanded.

There is a saying, “Drink coffee where successful people drink coffee. Your environment shapes your mindset instantly”
“Show me your friends & who you surround yourselves with , and I’ll show you your future.”
That quotes has always made sense to me
