Rising Stars: Meet Donnell Crawford of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnell Crawford.

Hi Donnell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in radio officially in 2004. At the time i didn’t know jobs/careers like this even existed. I use to help out my cousin who worked in radio before i did and that’s how i discovered this is what i wanted to do. Working in promotions can be stressful at times but fun at the same time. After working in the promo dept for about 10 or so years, i stepped out and learned how to DJ and became DJ Kue One. I eventually made my way to the airwaves, and that in itself was something i didn’t plan on happening and yet here we are. I am currently the mix jock on V101.9 from 1220p to 1p Monday thru Friday. Becoming DJ Kue One was one of the best decision’s I ever made. It has led me to be in places i otherwise wouldn’t be in and share the stage opening for artist I came up listening to. Just recently I opened up for the Wu Tang Clan here in Charlotte. That in itself was an experience.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being in radio was essentially smooth. Some of it is what you make of it, and the other part is what you put into it. Being a DJ has its own struggles however the good outweighs the bad and i look at it like, as long as i stay in my lane, I will be and do good and so far, that has been the case for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My promotional career at Beasley Media has been nothing short of amazing. Being in Promotions puts you in front of a lot of different people and you learn a lot in the process. I am partly responsible for setup and breakdown for station/client events and i also get to DJ most events if it’s needed. I’m most proud of being in place where i can continue to learn. The more you learn, the more you grow. I think what sets me apart from others is the fact i keep my word when i give it. That’s a rarity in this day and age and I don’t over promise anything. If I am able to do more than I will.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Well, my manger Leslie Baylor deserves ALOT of credit because she never tries to hinder growth and pushes you to be better in every way and also there are a host of other supporters i have from the DJ aspect and there are just to many to name. They know who they are and I am forever grateful that they believe in me and push me to be better. Dj Kue One wouldn’t be where he is without them.
