Today we’d like to introduce you to K7D.
Hi K7D , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. I started designing clothing and shoes at the age of sixteen. Basketball was my getaway, but creativity became my passion.
Today, I use my creativity to express my Blackness, tell my story, and create something that can inspire the next generation of creatives. My work is rooted in my experiences, my community, and the people who have helped shape me along the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building partnerships was one of the biggest challenges I faced when I first started my fashion label. It hasn’t been a smooth journey, and there were times when I questioned whether I was moving fast enough. But I’ve stayed motivated because I believe in my creativity and know that K7D is still growing.
I’ve learned that anything meaningful and built to last rarely comes easy. The challenges have taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of continuing to believe in what I’m creating, even when the results aren’t immediate. I’m still learning, still building, and excited about where this journey will take me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create to tell stories that my words alone may not always be able to express. As a lyricist, I use my voice to share my experiences, uplift my community, and inspire others. I take pride in my resilience and my commitment to bringing people together through creativity.
I’ve taken my studies to London at University of the Arts London to expand my knowledge, develop new skills, and equip myself with the tools to grow my brand and build meaningful partnerships internationally.
What sets me apart is that I’m not in competition with anyone but myself. I believe in continuous growth, staying true to my purpose, and creating opportunities for others. I want to see us all win.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I don’t consider myself self-made. The art I create today is a reflection of the experiences, lessons, and inspiration I’ve received from my family, friends, and education. My work is rooted in the people and communities around me, and I draw inspiration from the relationships and experiences that continue to shape who I am.
I believe I found the answer to my art by learning to accept who I am, rather than constantly searching for who I thought I needed to become. When I stopped looking for the answer and started embracing myself, I began to understand the purpose behind my creativity.
