Check Out Eva Clark’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Clark.

Hi Eva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My first exposure to the event world began shortly after college while planning fundraising events for a university hospital in Portland, Oregon. Around the same time, the historic church I belonged to asked me to coordinate weddings for them. With some formal and trial-by-fire experience under my belt, decided to start my own business a few years later, in 2003. Though initially wedding stationery, the business organically segued into wedding planning after some stationery clients asked me to plan their weddings.

Since then, I’ve successfully completed over five hundred weddings in five different countries, including work that was chosen as the backdrop for a major music video of a chart-topping single. In addition, my weddings have been published in The Knot, PEOPLE Country, Martha Stewart Weddings, BRIDES, Style Me Pretty, Carats and Cake and more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most entrepreneurs, challenges were an inevitable part of my journey. Early on, my growing family and desire to care for my young daughters (instead of a nanny) stifled the growth of my business. Travel for destination weddings wasn’t really feasible in those days as I felt the need to be close to home.

Additionally, becoming profitable was something I struggled with as I had a tendency to say “yes” to some clients who weren’t a good fit and, generally, undervalued my own time on projects.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a planner and designer, I specialize in luxury destination weddings. My refined, romantic aesthetic would best be described as organic and a bit eclectic. Because my business is very boutique in nature, I limit the number of couples I work with per year to seven, which helps ensure that each client receives the level of attention they deserve.

While I’m known professionally for the opulent events I’ve orchestrated in the US and Europe, I’m most proud of my personal life – my family. At the end of the day, the grandest of fêtes and notoriety wouldn’t mean a lick if my children were unsettled or didn’t feel loved.

How do you think about happiness?
Sunshine, salt air and time with my family keep me content and grounded. As someone who’s inclined to worry, I do my best to live in the moment and appreciate the little things.
