Check Out Kellesia Sharay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellesia Sharay.

Hi Kellesia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I help women heal from depression and childhood trauma- particularly those raised in a cult – through gardening, even with no prior gardening experience. As a dedicated cosmetologist turned gardener I took personal development into my own hands to find answers to my own depression. I was raised amongst adults that made me feel like I didn’t matter or was a mistake because of the circumstances of my birth into this world. I was also raised in a cult for 35 years of my life. Unfortunately as a young child bearing these burdens my spirit was constantly broken. After learning the truth about the cult I was raised in, I began to feel as though my entire life was stolen from me. Feeling as though I was born into this world to suffer: I understood this mindset was toxic and at times suicidal. I began to seek out things where I experienced joy and that made me happy. The list was very short. Realizing my joy centered around beauty in gardens and well manicured lawns, I solicited help to start my first garden. That journey led me to grow over 80 different fruits, vegetables, herbs and plant over 8 fruit trees. I realized the life of a seed mirrored our journey through life. As I love to share with others, I no longer have depression and the childhood trauma memories began to fade. I no longer have the garden so God lead me to write, publish, share and speak about my experiences. I have published 31 books so far. My mission is to help others heal as I have through the power of gardening.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe I’ve answered this in the last question. The road has been extremely rough. I would get injured working for Delta Airlines. I’ve had 2 rotator cuff surgeries and a neck surgery in the past 3 years. I filed for a divorce and lost everything including the garden. I had to move in with a distant cousin that I barely knew because I was in a hotel. My mom died last year and my sister didn’t come to the funeral. I would cut off many relationships with people that i grew up with. The list is long.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Cosmetologist, author and former gardener. My nickname is “The Hairnutritionists”. I’m known for specializing in healthy hair. I am most proud of the gift God gave me to help transform people. Making people happy and feel good about themselves brings me so much joy. I believe what sets me apart from others is my passion for making people feel and look good. I even make my own hair butters and hair oils because I don’t want them using toxic ingredients.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is to help people feel good and confident. I want people to know that they matter and that they are not a mistake no matter what they have been through. The reason this makes me happy is because I know what it feels like to feel worthless and suicidal.
