Conversations with Barrington Marson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barrington Marson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and visual arts. Growing up, I was fascinated by movies and television, and that passion eventually led me to earn a degree in Film Production. Like many people in the creative industry, my journey wasn’t overnight. It was built through years of learning, networking, taking on different production roles, and constantly improving my craft.
Over the years, I’ve worked as a cinematographer, editor, producer, writer, and director, allowing me to understand every aspect of filmmaking. I joined The Weather Channel, where I spent several years growing professionally before transitioning to CBS News Atlanta as a Camera Jib Operator and Floor Director. Along the way, I was honored to receive two Emmy Awards, which remain some of the proudest moments of my career. They serve as a reminder that persistence, preparation, and passion eventually pay off.
Outside of television, I founded Barrington Marson Productions, where I create independent films, commercials, music videos, documentaries, and branded content. My greatest passion is writing and directing original films that entertain audiences while leaving a lasting emotional impact. My horror short film, The Family Story, has been selected for multiple film festivals, and I’m currently developing my second feature film, Silent Interval.
Looking back, every challenge has taught me something valuable. The long hours, setbacks, and sacrifices have all shaped the filmmaker I am today. My goal is to continue creating meaningful stories, inspire other aspiring filmmakers, and prove that with consistency and faith, it’s possible to build a career doing what you genuinely love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many filmmakers, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing creativity with financial realities. Independent filmmaking requires wearing multiple hats as a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor while often funding projects out of pocket and working full time. There have been moments of self doubt, long hours, missed opportunities, and projects that took much longer than expected to complete.
Breaking into the entertainment industry also requires patience and persistence. Success rarely happens overnight, and I’ve learned that consistency is just as important as talent. Every setback has become a learning experience that has helped me grow both creatively and professionally.
Another challenge has been finding the balance between my career in television and pursuing my own films. Working in broadcast news demands discipline and long hours, but it has also sharpened my technical skills and strengthened my work ethic. Those experiences have made me a better filmmaker.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey. Every obstacle has strengthened my determination and reinforced why I love storytelling. Winning two Emmy Awards and having my films selected for multiple film festivals are reminders that perseverance truly pays off. Those milestones continue to motivate me to push myself, tell meaningful stories, and reach even bigger goals.

I am an Emmy Award winning filmmaker, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor with a passion for creating compelling visual stories. I currently work at CBS News Atlanta as a Camera Jib Operator and Floor Director, where I help deliver live television while continuing to build my own production company, Barrington Marson Productions.
I specialize in narrative filmmaking, particularly psychological horror and character driven stories that combine cinematic visuals with emotional depth. I also produce music videos, documentaries, commercials, and branded content, giving me experience across nearly every stage of production from concept development to final delivery.
I am most proud of earning two Emmy Awards and seeing my independent films gain recognition on the film festival circuit. Those accomplishments represent years of dedication, persistence, and a commitment to continually improving my craft.
What sets me apart is my ability to understand the entire filmmaking process. Having worked as a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and broadcast professional, I approach every project with both creative vision and technical expertise. My goal is always to tell meaningful stories that entertain audiences while leaving a lasting impression.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m really excited about what’s ahead. Right now, my main focus is continuing to grow as a filmmaker and bringing more of my original stories to life. I’m currently developing my second feature film, Silent Interval, and I’m looking forward to seeing it move from the script to the big screen.
I also want to keep building Barrington Marson Productions, take on larger projects, and collaborate with talented people who are just as passionate about storytelling as I am. While I enjoy my career in broadcast television, my long term goal is to continue creating films that connect with audiences and leave a lasting impact.
At the end of the day, it’s about continuing to grow, challenge myself creatively, and inspire others who are chasing their own dreams. I believe the best chapters of my career are still ahead, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
