Conversations with Ella Bope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Bope.

Hi Ella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography when I was 15, taking photos for Hide and Seek Day Camp. I had no idea what I was doing at first, I was just learning my camera, taking pictures of the camp, and figuring things out as I went. Even then, I loved how a photo could freeze a moment of joy in time and make someone smile. I’ve always loved telling stories, and I quickly realized that photography was a way to preserve moments that people could look back on for years.

In 2023, I put my camera down as I focused on college and starting my career. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever come back to it. After I got married in 2024, my husband kept encouraging me to pick it back up, and I’m so thankful he did.
I had the honor of capturing a friend’s wedding in October 2025, and I was hooked. I fell in love with getting to celebrate alongside my couples, capturing all the big moments and the little ones they don’t even realize are happening. One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is helping take some of the pressure off the bride and her family so they can slow down, be present, and actually enjoy the day they’ve spent so long planning.

I often refer to my style as timeless and “true to you” because I want my couples to look back at their photos 30 years from now and still love them. Every wedding has reminded me why I love doing this. I’ve photographed five weddings so far, with four more this year and five already booked for 2027, and I honestly still can’t believe I get to call this my job. It feels like such a gift to tell people’s stories and preserve some of the most meaningful days of their lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have struggled a lot with comparison and worrying about what others think. I think that is something so many artists deal with. It is easy to look at someone else’s work and wonder if you’ll ever be good enough. For a long time, I really beat myself up and questioned whether I had what it took.

Another struggle has honestly just been figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I spent a lot of time wondering if I was on the right path and trying to figure out where I fit. Looking back now, I can see how God was guiding me even when I couldn’t see it myself. Photography wasn’t something I planned on turning into a business, but it slowly became clear that it was where my passions, gifts, and love for people all came together.

I’m still learning and growing every day, but I’ve realized that comparison steals the joy out of creating. The couples, seniors and families who book me aren’t looking for someone else, they’re looking for me. My job isn’t to be the best photographer on the internet; it’s to serve my couples well, tell their story honestly, and create images they’ll treasure for the rest of their lives. That perspective has given me so much more confidence and joy than trying to measure up to everyone else ever could.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in wedding and lifestyle photography, with a focus on creating images that feel classic, timeless, and true to the people in them. I want my work to feel less like a photoshoot and more like spending time with a friend. My goal is to create an experience where my couples feel comfortable being themselves, while I capture the moments that naturally unfold.

What I love most about weddings is that I get to be part of such an important season of someone’s life. I’m not just there to take pretty pictures. I want to help make the day feel easier and more enjoyable. Whether that means helping a bride feel calm before walking down the aisle, fixing a small detail, or capturing the quiet moments that often get overlooked, I want my couples and their families to feel cared for.

I think what sets me apart is the way I approach photography. I have always loved storytelling and making people feel seen, and that’s what I bring into every session. I want my clients to look back at their photos and not just remember what they looked like, but remember how they felt. The laughter, the joy, the happy tears, and all the little moments in between.

I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built through photography. Being trusted with someone’s memories is such a gift, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. Every wedding and session reminds me why I love what I do and how special it is to preserve these moments for people to enjoy for years to come.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very creative and sentimental person. I loved music, sports, and being involved in things where I could connect with people. I’ve always been someone who noticed the little things and loved making people smile.
At the same time, I really struggled with anxiety and loneliness growing up. I longed for deep friendships and to feel like I truly belonged. Looking back, I think those experiences shaped a lot of who I am today. They gave me a deeper desire to make people feel seen, valued, and comfortable.
I think that’s one reason photography became so meaningful to me. I know what it feels like to want to be known and appreciated, and I love creating an environment where people can relax, be themselves, and have their story captured in a genuine way. The things I struggled with growing up have actually become some of the things that help me connect with my clients today.
