Conversations with Melanie Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Washington.

Hi Melanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I honestly couldn’t have done any of what I do today without God, my amazing husband David, and the support of my family. Looking back, I can see His hand in every part of the journey.

David and I started Dave’s Do It All Services LLC in November of 2021, when I was nine months pregnant with our son. In fact, I was literally in the delivery room, in active labor, still negotiating numbers for the business—so you could say I was committed from day one! Our son was born on December 6th, and just two weeks later, we were awarded our first $20,000 contract.

That season was exciting, but it was also incredibly challenging. David had to travel out of town to manage the project while I was home in Atlanta with our newborn and without family nearby. We were learning how to build a business, become parents, and navigate life all at the same time.

When we first came up with the idea for Dave’s Do It All, David described our roles perfectly: I would be the “brain” and he would be the “body.” I had a background in property management, while David had years of hands-on experience in painting, cleaning, drywall, lawn care, moving, junk removal, and general handyman work. Together, we realized we had the perfect combination to build a property improvement and turnkey services company.

Since then, we’ve been through some extremely trying seasons. We’re both full-time entrepreneurs raising two little ones, and there have definitely been moments when we’ve had to stretch, sacrifice, and trust God more than ever. But those challenges have also shaped us and taught us how resilient we are.

Along the way, I’ve also stepped into other ventures, including an all-natural juice business, and unexpectedly found another lane through social media. I started creating family content and funny videos, and some of that content went viral. My daughter has had a video reach over 9 million views, with a couple of others reaching around 3 million, and one of my own funny impersonation videos also reached millions of views.

What started as simply sharing our lives and making people laugh has opened doors I never expected. Today, we’re not only continuing to grow our businesses, but we’re also beginning to receive interest from major media outlets and opportunities for brand partnerships.

When I look back at where we started, I’m proud of how far we’ve come—but I’m even more excited about where God is taking us next. What started with me bringing an idea to my husband and him backing it up 100% has grown into a journey of entrepreneurship, family, faith, creativity, and purpose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! There have been days where we literally had zero dollars. We’ve had contracts “stolen” from us, money taken from us, and we’ve even hired subcontractors who ended up ruining a $30,000 project. We’ve had some really difficult moments where we had to sit down together and figure out how we were going to make it through.

But the biggest blessing is that I’ve never had to go through any of it alone. My husband and I have gone through all of it together. We built this business together, we’ve taken the losses together, celebrated the wins together, and learned some very hard lessons together.

There were definitely times when my faith would waiver and I would wonder, “God, how are we going to get through this?” But my husband’s faith has always been so strong. He would remind me of who God is, what He had already done for us, and why we couldn’t give up. His faith in Christ became a strength for both of us during some of our hardest seasons.

So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. But we’ve been blessed to have each other through every part of it. And honestly, I think some of the hardest seasons didn’t break us—they brought us closer, strengthened our marriage, strengthened our faith, and taught us how to keep going even when we couldn’t see what was on the other side.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work has evolved quite a bit over the last few years. Today, I’m involved in several different entrepreneurial ventures, but one thing connects them all: I’m always creating something.

With Dave’s Do It All Services, I focus heavily on the business and operations side, finding opportunities, building relationships, negotiating contracts, and making sure we’re positioned to grow. I’ve learned that I have a natural eye for seeing an opportunity and figuring out how to turn it into something bigger.

I’m also a content creator, which has been an unexpected but really exciting part of my journey. I create family-centered and comedic content, and I think what people respond to most is that it’s authentic. I’m not trying to create a perfect version of our life. I’m sharing the funny, real, sometimes chaotic parts of being a wife, a mom, and an entrepreneur.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve given myself permission to explore different talents and opportunities instead of feeling like I have to fit into one category. I’ve built businesses, created content that has reached millions of people, and opened doors that I never initially set out to open.

What sets me apart is probably my ability to see potential where other people might just see an idea. I’m also not afraid to start from scratch. I’m willing to learn, take risks, pivot, and figure things out along the way.

I think I’m still discovering exactly what this next chapter is going to look like. And honestly, that’s what makes it exciting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly, I don’t believe luck had anything to do with where I am today. I give all the credit and all the glory to God. I truly believe that without Him, I am nothing.

There have been opportunities that I know I could not have created for myself, doors that opened at the right time, and moments where things worked out in ways I could have never planned. I don’t call that luck. I call that God.

Even the difficult seasons have had a purpose. The losses, setbacks, disappointments, and moments when we didn’t know how we were going to make it through have all taught us something, strengthened us, and brought us closer to God.

So when I look at where I am today, I see answered prayers, hard work, obedience, perseverance, and God’s favor. I know for a fact that I am nothing without Him, and I never want to lose sight of that.
