Conversations with Seulgi Jo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seulgi Jo.

Hi Seulgi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my career as a bridal makeup and hair artist and PMU artist in South Korea in 2013. Weddings have always been my passion because I love being part of such a meaningful and emotional day in people’s lives. Helping someone feel confident and beautiful during one of their biggest milestones has always given me a strong sense of purpose.

After getting married, I moved to Georgia in 2018 and had to start my career all over again. Building a business in a new country, with a different language and culture, was definitely a challenge. There were moments when I had to prove myself from the ground up, but I never lost my passion for what I do.

I truly love this work, and I believe that passion naturally shows in every client experience. Over time, people began recommending me to their family and friends, and my business grew through those genuine relationships and word of mouth.

For the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of working with wedding couples almost every weekend. While bridal beauty remains my specialty, I also provide hair and makeup services for business events, graduation ceremonies, proms, professional headshots, and other special occasions.

As my business has grown, I’ve been fortunate to have clients travel to me and invite me to travel to them as well. In addition to serving clients throughout Georgia, I’ve provided on-location services in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, New York, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Ohio, and even internationally in Portugal. It has been incredibly rewarding to see my work take me to so many places and to be trusted with such important moments in people’s lives.

My approach has always been to create timeless, natural looks that help my clients feel like the best version of themselves rather than someone completely different. Every face is unique, and I love customizing each look to highlight my client’s individual beauty. Looking back, I’m grateful that what started as a dream in Korea has grown into a career that allows me to connect with people from so many different backgrounds and be part of some of the most memorable moments in their lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, but I believe every challenge helped shape the artist I am today.

One of the biggest adjustments was adapting to a much more diverse clientele. In South Korea, most of my experience was with clients who had relatively similar facial features and skin tones. After moving to the United States, I quickly realized that I needed a much deeper understanding of different face shapes, skin tones, skin types, and hair textures in order to provide every client with the highest level of service.

Although I had already graduated from beauty school and built my career in Korea, I decided to start over by attending beauty school again in the U.S. I earned my Master Cosmetology license because I wanted to learn from the ground up rather than rely only on my previous experience. That decision gave me a much broader perspective and strengthened both my technical skills and my confidence.

Beyond the technical side, building a business in a new country came with language barriers, cultural differences, and the challenge of establishing trust with people who had never heard of me before. It took patience, consistency, and a genuine passion for my work.

Looking back, I’m grateful for those challenges. They pushed me to keep learning, embrace diversity, and develop my own style—one that focuses on enhancing each person’s natural beauty rather than applying the same approach to everyone. Today, I feel confident working with clients from many different backgrounds, and that’s one of the most rewarding parts of my career

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in bridal hair and makeup with a focus on creating timeless, natural-looking beauty. Rather than following trends or using the same technique on everyone, I customize every look to complement each client’s unique features and personal style.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Being chosen to be part of one of the most important days of someone’s life is something I never take for granted.

I think what sets me apart is my attention to detail and my belief that great hair and makeup should enhance a person’s natural beauty, allowing them to look and feel like the best version of themselves.

In addition to bridal artistry, I also work as a PMU (permanent makeup) artist, helping clients achieve long-lasting enhancement through techniques such as natural brow design and subtle lip blush. My goal in PMU work is the same: to create soft, balanced results that enhance each client’s features while maintaining a natural and effortless look.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I believe this profession starts with loving people. Hair and makeup is not just about appearance—it’s about helping each person feel confident and comfortable in their own beauty.
